And what about once you add in your lights — how does that affect temperature? Don’t worry, I’ve got all the answers for you.

Best temperatures

Temperature affects photosynthesis, and that’s pretty important, am I right? Different temperatures can impact your marijuana plants in a variety of ways, including how efficiently they grow and whether they’ll stay healthy.

Lighting and temperature

Lighting can make a huge difference in the temperature of your grow space, especially if you are using HPS lamps. Your room could get to as high as 122 degrees Fahrenheit — and that’s high enough to kill your plants!

Keep temperatures from getting too high by increasing the extraction rates. Do the math — for every 2 watts of light you have, you should have an extractor fan of half the number of cubic meters. This removes the hot air and brings in fresh, cool air. Include a carbon filter so the smell doesn’t get out.

One thing to check is the distance between your lamps and the tops of your plants. If they’re too close, the temperatures will get too hot. Do the "hand test" to make sure it’s bearable (hold your hand underneath the lamp for 30 seconds or so).

There are some good rules of thumb to start out, however.

When your plants are seedlings, keep the temperatures between 68 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit.
This can go up to 82 degrees Fahrenheit (max) once they’re a bit older.
When the lights are off, the temperatures should be somewhere between 59 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit.
You also don’t want the temperature difference of night and day to be too drastic — keep the difference to 18 degrees Fahrenheit or less.

The temperature in your grow room is very important for the photosynthesis of your marijuana plants. For example, low temperatures reduces evaporation through the leaves. The result is that the suction force, which takes up nutrients via the roots, becomes smaller.

The nutrients that are necessary, but aren’t absorbed, remain in the growing medium and eventually disintegrates in the root environment. A high acidity in the growing medium reduces the working of the roots which makes the plant absorbs less water and nutrients, and the growth can even come to a halt.

So what posed as a small external imperfection at first, can have serious consequences in an entirely different part of the plant. Therefore it’s very important to create a good climate in your grow room.
