Shilaidah, a village within Kumarkhali upazila, 15 kilometers north of Kushtia town. This is the story of Rabindranath Tagore's Kuthibari in the village of Shilaidaha.
Rabindranath Tagore in 1807, according to Will's grandfather Dwarkanath ramalocana having in the region. Later in 1889 Rabindranath Tagore came here to look after zamindari. Rabindranath Tagore ran zamindari from the Kuthibari of Shilaidah till 1901.
Rabindranath Tagore, the Jagadish Chandra Bose, Dwijendralal Roy, pramatha Chowdhury, eminent scientists and poets of Bengal mohitalala Mazumder then come here. During his stay, the poet used to do his literary work in Kuthibari. The poet has compiled here, 'Sonar Tari', 'Chaitali', 'Chitra' and other works of poetry. The poet also wrote numerous songs in this Kuthibari poet Shilaidah.
Here the poet starts the English translation of Gitanjali. Rabindranath's deep affection towards Shilaidah and Padma was known in the cuneiform tablets.
Shilaidaha Kuthibari extends over 30 bigha area. There are evergreen tree gardens, a flowerpot and two ponds. The arcade in the entrance to the building is generally quite interesting.
The building's look-out of the eye The building has 16 rooms of different sizes. The upper pyramid-shaped ceiling of the two-storey building has multiplied the beauty of it. Since 1958, the Department of Archeology has preserved the Kuthibari of Rabindranath Tagore. The 'Thakur Memorial Museum' has been established here. The building is now open to visitors as a museum. Photographs of poet Rabindranath Tagore are preserved in the museum.
Besides, there are also used furniture and various art works. Her utensils include palanquin, wooden chair, T-table, sofaset, comfort chair, sofa, speedboat and other furniture.
Educated Rabindranath Tagore, at that time, established a primary school in the name of daughter-in-law goddess Idiilla, in Shilaidah. Which played an important role in promoting education at that time.
Shilaidaha Kuthibari is celebrated annually on 25th anniversary of the birth anniversary of Kabbigur.
