Cotard's syndrome: Dead in life?steemCreated with Sketch.

I'm going to talk to you about the strange Cotard's syndrome, also called delusion of denial.

People who suffer from this syndrome question their existence, coming to believe and be convinced that they are dead, have a bad self-esteem, and suffer a lot emotionally.

According to some patient statements, they may come to feel that their heart is not beating, that their liver is not working, that from their perspective they do not feel alive.  The person is totally isolated from the daily life, and from the living itself, to be immersed in the same introversion

The most incredible thing about the case is parallelism, some patients also think they are immortal, and can cope with both delusions at the same time,  which can lead to the most extreme situations,  like mutilation or suicide.

Dr. Jesús Ramírez explains that the patient feels detached from his own body, his emotions and his life and explains certain factors that could cause him:

"It requires a flaw in the logical mechanisms that is known as the belief assessment system, because a person may have problems of depersonalization, but not come to the conclusion that she is dead," adds the psychiatrist.

Today there is no specific treatment for this syndrome, but however, there are ways to treat it alternatively, such as psychotherapy.
