Make the most of it...

Have you ever stopped suddenly in your tracks and thought 'how time flies - life is very short. Why am I wasting my time on doing this?'

I actually did! I was walking through Bharatpur bird sanctuary with my son and his friend, merrily clicking photos of myriad variety of birds. That time spent was not a waste and is one of the most cherished days in my life. However, when I came across couple of brightly colored bugs on a bush, I started thinking about how their life was usually very very short compared to humans.

My train of thoughts steamed ahead to think 'Isn't our life too short too? Why am I wasting some precious time with negativity?' The reason I thought about negativity is that I had had an argument with a colleague couple of days back and though I was certain that I had not acted in an undesirable manner, my mind still rankled with the details of the fight.

In my personal experience, negativity, bred out of disagreement, is one of the most potent causes of some moments from our precious time being lost.

Do we ever pause to think about how many unwanted things that we try to stuff our life with? Many of us run after marital pleasure, material pleasure, money and more money! While doing that, we get entangled like an insect.

We flaunt powerful red sports cars and adorn ourselves in fancy clothes. All in the hopes of finding a mate. Sometimes we do that also for letting others know that we are powerful and others should not mess with us. This behavior is just like an insect!! Have you noticed that many insects sport very bright colors, such as this one in the photograph I took (with my Nikon P900 camera at Bharatur sanctuary in Jan 2015). The insect looks very pretty, perched on a nice flower and wearing a livery of bright red and black stripes - isn't it? All that prettiness is very short lived. Most bugs have a very short life span and before you blink, metaphorically speaking, their life reaches it's end. So does our life, if we do not reflect upon it and choose our path wisely.

Let us think a little about our past and look at so many things that we have done in our lives that have lead to negativity. If not, they have at least ended up taking our valuable time in which we could have done something constructive!

Things we could do better to live our short life to the fullest

1. Be creative instead of being analytical about everything. Data and analysis takes up valuable time. Going overboard with it, therefore, is a bad idea!

2. We should not abide by every rule that get's thrown at us. We need to question the justification for the rules and break a few of them instead of hitting our heads against the wall in frustration.

3. Accept that we are inferior to no one - If we constantly compare ourselves to other and think that others are brainier, luckier and with more skills, we lose valuable time in our life!

4. Instead of just being upset with some wrong/ injustice in the world, we should do something about it! Otherwise, it certainly stays on our conscience and wastes valuable time for us.

5. We should think less and do more. We should never get locked up in a state of 'analysis paralysis'

6. Understand that no one really cares how much 'stuff' we have. As actor Will Smith said "We spend money that we do not have, on things we do not need, to impress people who do not care.”
   We should not, therefore, spend too much time and effort on collecting such 'stuff'

7. Slow down and experience the nice things in life at a more sedate pace. You will love the experience.

I could go on an on with my preaching. However, frankly speaking, I am no expert on this either. I HAVE spent a considerable amount of my life doing all those things and let life slip by, haven't I ??

I therefore, only advise you to take a look at your own life and decide what you want to do with it and how you want to do it. The clock is ticking for everyone and life is short!!
