Ramadan- A time to get closer to God

In Islam, Ramadan is known as a fasting period that lasts for 30 days. Muslims worldwide engage in this act except those who are ill, pregnant or little kids who are still toddlers.
The Ramadan period is meant for prayers, charity and for purifying the mind and the body.
The beginning of Ramadan is determined by astronomical calculations. Some parts of the world began yesterday and some today. This period will end with a celebration known as the Eid ul fitr a festival that will mark the end of the fasting. Muslims are encouraged to give to the poor and less priviledged voluntarily (Sadaqa) or mandatorily (zaqat). I am seizing the opportunity to urge all steemians, Muslims and everyone to get closer to God at this time and also use this avenue to seek for forgiveness of sins from God. May God hear our cry.
