Positive Thinking For Beginners: The One Thing You Need To Know
Positive thinking is just like anything else we learn, it takes a little practice to get good at it.
And to get good at it, you have to make it part of your life by integrating it as your way of living little by little until it just becomes natural. And just like pretty much any sport out there, it’s easy to learn but it takes some practice and determination to see the best results in your life.
But don’t let any perceived difficulty hold you back or you will lose out on the benefits, once you make it second nature you will look back and wonder why you didn’t begin adopting positive thinking earlier in life.
So it takes conditioning of the mind to begin and once you begin to advance in your level of understanding, you will then realize that it all starts to emanate from you. But let’s leave that for another time as this is intended to be a beginners quick guide.
Everything in this world has polarity, good and bad, black or white, yin and yang, north and south, east and west, and the list goes on. But it is all a matter of perception.
It is our perception of things that leads us to believe as something being positive or negative. Our being contains the mechanism to perceive. Part of that mechanism is called “emotions” or “feelings.”
Our emotions measure the experiences we go through and based on our previous history of experiences determines if something feels good or bad.
If you think about it, let’s look at this example: A couple has just found out they are pregnant for the first time. To the father it sounds like horrible news, he can only think about the cost, the work, the sleepless nights, and no more clubs! To the mother it sounds like wonderful news as she can already picture herself shopping for baby clothes, and feeling the baby kick. It’s a new experience and the excitement is rushing in with joy inside her.
Or maybe the mom is the one going nuts as It can be the other way around as well. But the main thing here is that they perceive the same experience they’re about to have in a totally different and opposite way. This perception can be caused by the conditioning they have lived through up to this point. It can come from their parents, television, teachers, school, previous similar experiences or someone else’s experiences! Everything and anything that has an influence in your perception.
No two lives are ever the same because even in the same situations two individuals perceive things differently.
So if the world is full of potential negative influences, how in the heck can you be more positive?
First, by realizing that YOU are responsible for your own life, and then making the choices to condition your perception into a better one. YOU alone know what makes you feel good or bad and so you can decide to put more action, thought, and energy into it.
Even if you think you are a bit messed-up having experienced trauma due to negative experiences etc. Hopefully this has sunk in and now you can realize that you can “write your own program” create your own experiences, ones that serve you and make you feel more positive.
You can begin with little things such as associating with more positive people, watching more uplifting movies instead of horror ones, do stuff that encourages learning, excites you in a good way and motivates you.
From that point on everything will get better and better and you will create a snow ball effect.
