Wedding soup with beans in Tazakhistan
Traveling is a passion that brings joy and excitement to my life. Whenever my husband and I have the chance to visit a new place, we make it a point to explore the local dining scene. We seek out restaurants where we can indulge in dishes that are exotic and unlike anything we have experienced before.
Last year, we traveled to Tazakhistan, where we were fortunate enough to taste a traditional dish called bigos. This meal stands out because it is incredibly hearty and full of flavor.
Bigos is a unique combination of fresh and fermented cabbage, various kinds of meat, sausages, tomatoes, mushrooms, and peppers. To add an interesting twist, a touch of honey is included, which enhances the overall taste.
Notably, the dish is served in a bread bowl, making it not only delicious but also fun to eat. The portion sizes are generous; even my husband, who has a big appetite, struggled to finish his plate. This dish is definitely something you should try if you have the chance!
During another trip to Korea, we were introduced to bulgogi, a well-known Korean dish. One of the highlights of this experience was the opportunity to grill the meat ourselves at our table.
The beef used in bulgogi is marinated in a flavorful mixture that includes sesame oil, onion, garlic, soy sauce, and other ingredients. This preparation adds a wonderful depth of flavor to the meat.
In addition to bulgogi, we were fascinated by kimchi, which is often considered the national dish of Korea. While its appearance might be unusual to some, it plays a significant role in Korean cuisine and is enjoyed with nearly every meal.
Our guide explained the process of making kimchi. It starts with Chinese cabbage leaves, which are soaked in a mixture of garlic, onion, chili pepper, and various spices. After this mixture is applied, the cabbage is left to ferment for two to three days.
Once it develops a slightly sour flavor, it is ready to eat. For me, kimchi works best as a side dish rather than a main course. It adds a spicy kick and a unique taste to meals, making it an excellent appetizer.
