Shop Without Shopkeepers ~~NGHAH LOU DAWR
Difficult to Imagine Shop without Shopkeepers?
Mizoram has had them for years. People from Mizoram,India are renowned for their honesty and hospitality.
Thier way of life is best described by Mizo term Tlawmngaihna which means to be kind, unselfish, and helpful to others.
Mizoram has also the famous Shop without Shopkeepers called NGHAH LOU DAWR
These are set up by farmers.
Vegetables, Fruits, Flowers and other products are sold in these shops. A list displays the price of all products. Containers to collect money are also placed in the shop called Paisa Bawm
Customers browse through the wares, pick the product they like and put the money in Paisa Bawm. Customers can even take change from these boxes.
Owners of these shop says,
“We run this shop the whole year. We just put the price list near the vegetable or anything we are selling and people simply pick up what ever they like and put the money in the container. If required, they even take the change from the box themselves. We trust them, they have never failed us. Nothing has ever been lost from our shops.”
Whereas the locals who use these shops says,
“We feel great that Mizoram has such kind of vendors and we often buy from them. It makes us happy, like we’ve contributed to something beautiful. This is how it should be,”
Great story. Honesty is a great thing. Would love to visit India one of these days. Came close once!
