The Female-Only IoT Device

in #life8 years ago

Innovation has now spawned the Internet-of-Things Tampon. I am not squeamish, but some things just seem wrong when it comes to the prevalence of technology. Making everyday items ‘smart’ is the latest trend, with some estimates exceeding 20 billion IoT devices by 2020. IoT gadgets are sprouting up everywhere from cars, kitchen appliances, wearables, and now even insertables?

I get why home thermostats, autonomous vehicles, security cameras, and all manner of other daily technologies benefit from being connected to the Internet. Such connectivity allows for monitoring and remote control in some cases. It is the next big thing. But I just can’t get over the weirdness of this one.

Benefitting the Human Condition

I suppose it makes sense, as Internet connectivity for medical and hygiene devices can be a benefit. Fitness trackers help keep owners motivated and fit, healthcare devices monitor patients’ conditions, and even toothbrushes notify if you are not brushing enough, are all valuable. So, I guess this is also helpful to 51% of the population, to be more informed and help prevent complications as well as potentially embarrassing situations.

How does it work?

I will leave that to their video.

Okay, I am convinced. Although I will never have the need myself, I will just go-with-the-flow on this one…

Sort:

IoT device to alert me to what I already know. maybe I'd try it, but the last thing I want is my period to cost me more money.

Good point. There are economic factors as well.

The my.Flow system certainly has merit if it can help prevent Toxic Shock Syndrome. As for whether it will catch on, that is another consideration because the inventors anticipate pricing it above the cost of common tampons. In addition, there is the $49 for the Bluetooth processor and smartphone app. But considering that people will pay extra for bottled water when tap water basically free, there is the possibility that my.Flow will be a business success.

I don't want to think about this IoT device being hacked...

"Digital tampons used to attack unsuspecting websites. Users unaware."
is that gonna be a future headline?? lol

It's going to be messy...
