Birthdays and busy weekends
We, as parents, want to do everything right by our children. We want to make their lives as peaceful, fun and carefree as possible...even if it adds a little stress to our daily lives...we do it. Even when we know it’s going to be a looong weekend, like this precious one was!
My children got invited to not one, but two Birthday parties this past weekend. Birthdays are always stressful events for me. I’m socially anxious...and habitually running late for everything (which adds to the anxiety...but it’s a habit i can’t seem to break.
I like to attend every birthday we’re invited. This is to help my sons facilitate friendships...especially since they’ve been out of school for the last year! It’s also to ensure my hang ups (social awkwardness) don’t affect them...so anyway...I made my mind up to attend both.
The first fun (<sarcasm) event was present purchasing. You would think this wouldn’t be too hard...but with two young boys...who would obviously prefer to be purchasing toys for themselves...it was quite the time consuming process. We walked down aisle after aisle...picked up toys, put down toys, debated...until I finally had to intervene and just pick something!
I made sure we did the gift purchasing the day prior. Otherwise we would have never made it on time to either party!
Of course both parties were over a half an hour from the house...so yeah...we were 15 minutes late to both!
The first party was at an indoor play venue. They had arcade games (which costed extra), bounce houses, skating, and laser tag( which also costed extra). The boys had a good time in the bounce houses for a while. It wasn’t long though, before the little one wanted to do something else. I spent a large amount of time chasing him around and trying to keep track of both kids! Lovely. Fun was had by all though (even a little by me, as it was fun watching them play). It wore them out enough for us to get naps in when we got home! That’s always plus.
The second party was at the home of a girl i used to work with.
I live out in the middle of nowhere practically...but this girl’s house was waaaaay far out there. I assumed the party would be underway by the time we got there (fashionably late as usual) but I was wrong. The father of the birthday girl...was also late. Apparently he was the only one who knew how to operate the grill...so...we waited. There were several other kids there...most of which my kids had never met. They got a little rowdy...I mean...they are kids after all. There was one parent in particular who was not pleased with yet kids’ behavior (which was honestly...was just restless kids being kids) so it was a little uncomfortable. Not to mention, the air conditioner was not working properly...as it was 80 degrees in the house. After a while the kids seemed a little miserable. We dipped out right after the cake!
I managed to almost miss my hair appointment...I was 15 minutes late for that one too! Luckily they could still take me.
At the end of the busy day...after the busy weekend...the hubby bought us pizza for dinner (yay! No cooking) and we all settled down. The boys actually fell asleep in the bed with us. We were waiting out a thunderstorm warning! Lol. It was crowded but cozy!
Now...on to Monday! Let’s see what this week has in store! So far, no weekend plans...and I am 100% okay with that!
I think it was quite stressful since it's not just one, it's two birthday parties. And apparently time was not your best ally that day, there are definitely times where we get so complicated and just improvise.
That children share with others is quite important for their relationship with other children, playing and having fun. I imagine that the place where the second party was in the "middle of nowhere" made things difficult for him.
Imagine if you had bought the toys that same day too! Total chaos.
It was really a busy weekend for you ,taking the kids to two different birthdays celebration and also bring out time for your hair appointment . It is really stressful bit a bit fun eapexcially for your kids to meet other kids and play together. @twoturtletots

I have come to spend a very busy time on the birthday. Have a great day. Maybe your kids have to play with kids as well as a big cake organized, but it looks very nice, I could have had a lot of fun at this party.
