What to know about Depression
Depression is a disease of the mind that causes feeling of helplessness, worthlessness, emptiness, regret, self pity and self hate.
Many of us in the world today suffer from depression and most of us don't even realize it. Some say it is a medical condition, others say it comes naturally and some believe it is spiritual and we can all agree that it is one of either. Many of us have been depressed most of our lives without any particular reason because almost everything about our lives have seemed to be great all along while some of us because we were broke, lost a loved one, some because we were bullied, others because we were betrayed, some because we made bad choices and careless decisions and had to live with the consequences of our actions which has led us to regret, some because we tried so hard for our marriages to work but it still ended in divorce, some because we didn't get that job or scholarship we felt it was end of the world, some of us because our parents were abusive and some of us were even abandoned by our parents and loved ones.
Some of the signs and symptoms of depression include; mood swings or sadness, guilt(maybe for past mistakes), hopelessness, loss of interest in activities, fear, anxiety, excess sleepiness, restless sleep, excessive hunger(which causes one to eat too much and gain a lot of weight), fatigue, loss of appetite (which causes weight loss), excess crying, social isolation (always want to be left alone), over thinking and reoccurring thoughts of suicide.
When we are depressed, there seems to be nothing that can make us truly happy. Some doctors prescribe anti - depressants, they tell us to exercise more, keep ourselves busy, eat healthy, do new things and a lot more but honestly that doesn't seem to help much because there's always that emptiness, that great pain, that big hole that doesn't seem to leave but hovers around us. We really try and make all efforts to make the pain go away but it doesn't and so some of us try to take the fastest way out by opting for suicide because the pain is exceedingly to much to bear, some of us have been lucky to have been saved, some weren't so lucky and so lost their lives. Some of us choose to hide in our houses because we can't face the world, some of us cry most of our lives, and many of us turn to drugs, alcohol, gambling, pornography and masturbation. All these addictions are an escape as they do not provide solutions, some even causes us more pain and health problems such as migraines, liver and kidney infections and many health problems.
