Eliminating Poverty 2.(RIGHT TO CLEAN WATER).

in #life7 years ago

There is a saying "water has no enemy"indeed can a day pass without contact with this divine work of nature?

You may quickly think that water is so cheap I use it everyday. You are very much right but just lucky to have access to clean or treated water.

No healthy human can do without clean or treated water in fact we are all born wet.

According to H H Mitchell,Journal of Biological chemistry 158,the Brain and the Heart are composed of 73% water, and the Lungs are about 83% water. The Skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79% and the bones are watery 31%.[www.usg.gov/edu/property].

Even our planet is about 70% water. There is so much water than land mass itself ,in fact beneath the earth there is water layer.

Despite this enormous water bodies around us,a substantial population of the earth have been deprived of clean or treated water.

It is very disturbing to see the ordeal several communities in the third world especially the rural areas of african countries go through to get water.

To think of the kind of water they drink is pitiful!.To imagine some people still drink directly from the streams, shallow wells and rivers is worrisome.

How then can they breakaway from the grips of poverty when clean water is luxury?
Why are people suffering in the midst of plenty?

This is really big!

  • About 2.1billion people lack access to safely managed drinking water services[WHO/UNICEF,2017]

-340,000 children under age 5 die every year from diarrheal diseases(WHO/UNICEF ,2015).

-3.4million people die each year from scarce and contaminated water.

It is a known fact that almost Eighty percent of illness in the third world can be traced to drinking of dirty water.

-chronic diarrhea,
-cholera
-Typhoid fever
-legionellosis
-viral infections
-vomiting/dehydration

If Health is wealth then contaminated water is poverty. In some cases almost uncontrollable epidemic breakout in villages with just one source of water "dirty stream".

Think of this scenario; A nursing mother who is not lactating decides to prepare baby's food with stream water (contaminated water ) she manages boil of course water not well treated.Baby develops diarrhea and is taken to a poor health facility.... After shoddy treatments by probably by unqualified personnel Baby was lost and mother died due the shock.

These type of families are not uncommon in regions like this, where one or two members of a family are lost to avoidable situations.

You may quickly think, why don't they boil their water or dig shallow wells .The Answer is "a poor person cannot afford some of those things".These are people that hardly eat ones in 12hours.

Unfortunately regions like this are plagued with corrupt Government ;Government of desolation.

Is water so expensive?
Is water not basic to life?
Is life not a right ?
Is right to life not right to live a good one?
Is living too expensive for the poor?
