3 Easy (& Free) Ways to Learn New Things Daily

“Learning never exhausts the mind.” – Leonardo da Vinci

Did you learn something new today? Taking time to develop your knowledge base is an important habit one should work to maintain. I know you’re busy. School, work, family and a million obstacles might actually convince people that they have zero spare time. Is this true? Is there actually no time in your day for a bit of self development?

Most of you will quickly realize that we all have some time after a bit of reflection. Achieving mastery of a topic means you’re going to have a thorough knowledge of the field. Successful people don’t just read about their field, but also about the world around them. In 2016 we have so much information at our fingertips that it’s hard to find an excuse not to learn more.

We can learn the basic or advanced steps to gain many skills completely free online or through books at a library. Here are a few tips and tricks to keep learning while juggling that hectic schedule:

  1. Schedule 30 minutes a day towards learning something new. - It might mean waking up a little earlier or going to bed thirty minutes later. Pick up a book or read something new online. Little by little this daily habit can turn into 210 minutes a week, 840 minutes a month, and 10,080 minutes per year!!
  2. Start downloading podcasts. - We all have some dead time commuting to work, making something to eat, or getting ready for bed at night. Podcasts are downloadable shows on a broad range of topics that can be listened to on your phone or computer.
  3. Free classes through a MOOC. MOOC stands for Massive Open Online Courses and there are many free courses led by professors from world renowned universities like Harvard and MIT. The real beauty about these classes is that you are able to watch lectures and complete assignments at your own pace. Some of the more popular MOOC sites are Coursera and Khan Academy.

So there you have it. Those are some of my favorite resources to continue growing as a person and professional. Success requires us to utilize the tools available so we can reach that next level in our lives. Take advantage!

Yes! This is great. I got my first Kindle in 2013. A lot of people complain about reading on a Kindle and still wanting to read paper. Which is fine. But I noticed that the amount of books and the range of books I read exploded when I got my Kindle. And you can borrow free books through your local library.

@mctiller, I've got Kindle on my iPhone 6 plus as an app. I love it. :)

Keep it up!
I started few weeks ago to learning Italian every day 30minutes to one hour :D

That's the goal. I speak Spanish and English, but am working on Portuguese next!

I tried Coursera and I world recommend this opportunity to others.

@thisiscarlosm , I agree my friend. Here's another resource I find very enjoyable...go here and subscribe to this newsletter. There's a ton of reading suggestions there and you can read a lot of it right on her site or emails because she quotes them all in there. https://www.brainpickings.org/
