The color gray is the color of Gandalf's cloak in the beginning of J.R.R Tolkien's trilogy of The Lord of the Rings. When the warlock returns from death his cloak changes from gray to white.

The Color of Aging
Gandalf was old, and the color associated with the elderly tends to be gray. Therefore gray symbolizes old age.

Our brain matter is gray; for this reason we use the phrase "use your gray matter" when referring to one's intelligence.

Gray is empty. For me gray suggests calmness and equilibrium or balance. It's like an empty Karma, with nothing to give or take.
