What If Vulnerability Was The Ultimate Key To Personal Success? Let Me Surprise You!
Vulnerability is not about winning, and it's not about losing. It's about having the courage to show up and be seen. - Brené Brown
The decision to go on stage implies being open to any sort of reaction that may be addressed by your audience. Then you voluntarily decide to be completely seen.
As in real life so in social media: the more people believe to know about you, the higher your vulnerability. The more open you are, the wider the contact surface.
A natural mechanism in such situation would be to start playing defensively. Still there's another way to manage it.
Here's to the surprising benefits of vulnerability!
@surfermarly admitting her own vulnerability
Embrace vulnerability!
Vulnerability is the place where you exist with no barriers, no walls.
It's actually the place of total potency, total power and total capacity; in contrast to what you're told most of the time. Vulnerability per se comes with a negative touch, being associated with weakness and impotence.
What if we turned these established correlations upside down and considered vulnerability being the place where greatness is set free and where we can be 100% ourselves?
What if vulnerability was the one and only key to a fulfilled life?
Probably the only weak point that we have is that we admit having one.
Forget about everything you know about vulnerability!
Thanks to the open books strategy in decentralized environments like the Steem blockchain, wealth is no hidden secret.
What a tempting ground for envy, jealousy and greed!
Those who have accomplished certain milestones and represent the triumphant elite in the community, need to deal with these side effects of fame and glory on a daily basis.
Admitting personal vulnerability means that you no longer have to defend. Think about being attacked by another user in this community: Who or what are you defending for or against? Once you feel the need to justify your actions, they wouldn't be part of your self-concept anymore.
Thait said if you completely surrendered and didn't fight back, you'd be above such things.
Now I highly recommend you to watch Brené Brown's speech (TED talk) on 'The power of vulnerability':
Image is the antithesis of vulnerability
The problem with image is that we have to maintain and uphold it, while a vulnerable self can just be.
If you're able to come to that point where you recognize that the best defense is a strong and self-confident presence, nobody will ever be able to attack you again. That said an artificially created image would start to crumble at this point in time.
It's a human characteristic that we pretend to make other people feel comfortable. Even though they're the ones that are trying to tear us down, we still pretend to identify the problem within ourselves.
The former American football player Ricky Williams said the following during the talk 'Vulnerability in the face of fame':
Me being me is gonna make other people uncomfortable.
Watch the whole video on this site: What if vulnerability is the key to greatness?
Remember: vulnerability is not a weak point, it's the actual strength of the wholehearted as Brené Brown called them.
While we tend to associate vulnerability with weakness and a lacking bravery, it's in vulnerability where real courage lies.
So be wholehearted and vulnerable, steemians :-)
Best, Marly -

Indeed Kutcher just nailed it :)
Thank so much for your kind appreciation Great Lady <3
Oh my, so enjoyed this read and sill have to check out the Ted Talk while I’m cleaning. Yes, it’s easy to associate vulnerability with weakness but you’re right, it’s the opposite. New follower and I really, really, appreciate your kind words and feedback on my smoothie post ❤️
Thanks for your kind words and the follow, it's always good to be surrounded by nice people :-)
See you around!
Oh my thank you!
I've always really sucked at small talk, which has sometimes made me seem strange to others I'm sure and limited my ability to be a more social person. If an interaction isn't rich in meaning and vulnerability, I'd rather not bother. Instead, I would rather have time and space to enter altered states of deep play consciousness. I am never bored there.
Thanks for this amazing post!
I always wanted to chat with Johnny Depp once in my life :-)
To be honest, I'm also not the best small talker and appreciate going a bit deeper. Obviously, in social media it's not always easy to do so. Still this is a place where you can find people who are interested in feeding each other lines.
Thanks for your comment, it's been special!
A deep conversation is what I am always hungry for. Unfortunately, in our societies we fear being vulnerable and have rich conversations "even with the right people. We have to solve trust issues first! We are afraid they'll use our weaknesses towards us one day! Some prefer fake conversations and connections and others prefer being alone! We need to start trying and embrace new capacities. As soon as I realized this, I started to open up my real-self and soul with people through Steemit, never did it before because I was busy in acting out the soul of characters I played. This train of thoughts has now become one of my favorite things to ponder.
You touched some really important points here! When I started to write this article it was actually meant to uncover something I had discovered in my recent conversations on Steemit. There are quite many people out here who constantly wait for your next mistake in order to celebrate it. This may lead to such culture of defense play. But then I found Brené Browns video and another one that inspired me to promote the very opposite: don't hide, open yourself!
Have a great Sunday! I'll get my surfboard ready now :-)
@austrobot - geht ned ;)

so good. Brene Brown writes some great stuff. Thanks for the reminder.
She really does. Thank YOU for stopping by :-)
I look forward to your posts! Thank you!
Vulnerability means you'll be hurt. So what? You'll recover. And the advantages are more than worth it.
I have been told by two different people that I love more completely and more absolutely than anyone they've ever known. You know the secret to that kind of love? Not being afraid of vulnerability.
Everyone should first recognize their vulnerabilities and then it can be used as strengths.
@surfermarly when do you have time to surf?
Tomorrow I'll be back in the water :-) Mellow winds, little waves and full sunshine - that's the way I like to do it.
This reminds me of what this famous dwarf guy of game of thrones said
"Wear your flaws like an armour and no one will be able to use it to hurt you"
Its true what the bible says, pride goes before a fall..... Often times the most important things in life are counterintuitive
Try to help people for free you become a badass billionaire
Try to be vulnerable, you build a castle with large walls around yourself!
True words @surfermarly
I couldn't agree more
