Tragic ends to Blu and Jewel's love story?
This blog is about some extinct species of birds endemic to Brazil
The species of blue macaw depicted in 2011 animated movie Rio has been officially classified as 'extinct in the wild'. The Spix's macaw, the Brazilian parrot, is now one of eight species that have been added to a list of confirmed or highly likely extinctions under new statistical classifications.
50% of the birds that recently went extinct were native to Brazil. Other birds are critically endangered.
EXTINCT species
CRYPTIC TREEHUNTER..............
Scientific name: Cichlocolaptes mazarbarnetti
Formally described in 2014, the bird was last seen in the wild n 2007. 50 individuals are expected to be in captivity.
ALAGOAS FOLIAGE-GLEANER................
Scientific name-Philydor novaesi
In 1979 first discovered in Murici, Alagoas in Brazil. This small gingery forest bird became extinct.
POO-ULI.................
Scientific name-Melamprosops phaeosoma
Also called black-faced honeycreeper, it was endemic to the island of Maui in Hawaii. Last sighted in 2004.

Last this species is seen 2000.
REAL LIFE BLUE..........
Three of these birds were found in a Brazilian forest. Two were illegally captured for the pet trade, and attempts to breed the final male were unsuccessful. 2016 sighting in the wild is now thought to have been an escaped caged bird.
