Super Blue Blood Moon in Japan

in #life7 years ago

Hi all,

Well it hasn't happened yet, but I was shocked at the size of the moon around 6pm JST.

The image is from my Iphone, so its not the best. But you can get an idea of the moon and the moon dogs. Moon dogs are the paler version of sun dogs: bursts of light often in reds and blues spectrum that appear on both sides of the moon. This phenomenon is caused by almost invisible clouds that reside in the atmosphere where commercial airliners cruise, at about 10,000 meters. The clouds are composed largely of ice crystals, known as diamond dust. The official name for a moon dog is a paraselene if seen at 22 degrees. If the image is at 90, 120 or 140 degrees then it's known as a parantiselene.

Whatever the light is called, the moon looks a lot bigger than it is, and add the moon dogs and it looks massive!

Get out and watch the eclipse!

My daughter and I went out. My neighbour, who is from the US, was also out with his kids. He took the shot.

I finally got out my son too!

Wow! They are certainly getting taller! I'm glad you didn't show the other moon though! :)

Haha, and that is your first post...

You captured it. It’s a great moment to share it with your daughter 😊

Wow!!! I read a post that it will be at 9pm in the Philippines. Will go check it later😀

Ya its happening already. You may want to look now! But the blood red moon will last for over an hour.
This is the first time in 152 years that a Super Moon, a Blood Moon and eclipse have happened at the same time.

I checked it but did not take a pic. 1/8 of the moon is covered by clouds.
