Healthy Vegetables That Aren't Healthy

Vegetables are considered to be the healthiest food items that we can eat. However, not all vegetable items that we eat are healthy. In fact, there are some vegetable meals that we should never eat if we are really looking forward to our health.

Many vegetables can have great benefits for the human health, but not all of them. In fact, some vegetable items are only advertised to be nutritious and healthy as a part of their industrial marketing campaign. Sometimes by adding the word vegetable to most of the food items, we are trapped into thinking that they are healthy while they are actually not.

Here we have prepared a list of some vegetable food items that you must be aware are unhealthy if you’re looking forward to good health :

  • Processed and Canned vegetable items
    What happens when you put vegetables for days without eating them? They simply go bad. However, canned vegetable meals and soups make sure that enough chemicals, preservatives, and additives are added to the food items to make sure they don’t go bad. Consider it this way, when the bacteria refuse to eat that food, why should we humans be ready to eat such a thing? There is a lot of added sodium in the processed items which can have bad health impacts. Plus, there can be artificial materials and sweeteners which doesn’t provide any nutritional value and only harms our health.
  • Tomato Ketchup
    The fresh juicy tomatoes they show you in the commercials is not what it’s made of. Many ketchup manufacturing companies don’t even use ketchup as their primary ingredients. They are probably using starch, rice, and cornstarch with added flavors and tons of sugar in it. All of this can harm your health. On top of that, they use bright red artificial food color, which is most probably made of petroleum byproducts. That’s terrible, no? And if it’s not convincing enough, they also use preservatives high in sodium which can be really bad for your heart health. So now you probably know what you’re eating.
  • Vegetable Tempura
    Many vegetables are probably healthy, but the biggest mistake that we make is to make it in the unhealthiest way possible. Cooking it at a high temperature in a deep fryer filled with unhealthy oil and fats will not only burn all the nutritious content in the vegetables, but they’ll also soak a lot of oil in them. Basically, it will just make it really unhealthy to eat.
  • Vegetable Juice
    We consider vegetable juice to be a really healthy substitute for the vegetables, especially when we don’t find enough time to keep up with our healthy vegetable diet regime. The first reason you shouldn’t be drinking any of those juices is if you’re buying those packed juices from the market, which are definitely counted as processed store food which more harms than the actual nutritional value. Then you don’t even know that the taste and the content you’re experiencing is actually a real vegetable or not, because they always have added flavors. Some brands that are really honest might also write that the juice includes 20% of fresh raw vegetables. But that simply means that the rest 80% of the juice is not from fresh raw vegetable sources, right? Simple common sense. Secondly, juicing the vegetables actually leaves behind most of the healthy content that is in there. Getting the gist of it isn’t quite right in terms of national value. We are only juicing out the water content in it, which probably will take some nutrients and sugar out along with it. The healthy fiber which is an essential part of the healthy vegetable is still left behind with a lot more in it.
  • Vegetable Chips
    That’s a very smart way of selling chips. Most of the people have started to learn about how potato chips can be unhealthy and a junk food. As a response, it was a brilliant idea to make chips of something people consider healthy. Veggie Chips! Smart, right? The chips, however, are not very healthy for you. They don’t only add additives to enhance the fresh color and appearance of it, there is a lot of added sugar to enhance the taste. The taste would often neutralize with the acid that is used in it, which doesn’t make us feel that the actual product would have so much sugar added to it. Then again, the oil that they’re cooked in is basically toxic to human health.

Conclusion
Watch out for all the healthy foods you’re eating, because you’re probably not eating healthy. Knowledge is power, and which this knowledge you will have a power of decision making and understanding of what kind of foods will be bad for you even if you’re told that they’re good. Eat healthily and stay healthy!

Not all foods with the label "vegetables" on them are good. That's a given fact. But we consumers must also be aware of what really is in our foods. Thus, make checking and reading the label, ingredients and nutrition facts a habit.

You make many claims about ingredients, chemicals additives etc., but you reference none of it. How are people supposed to read any source material with no references? Whether true or not, your claims are an opinion without backing sources. The topic is vegetables yet you have an image of fruit. And 18 upvotes? Nice haha.

Any processed vegetables, juice, or fruits or food in general are not good. Anything fresh and organic are better.

You're absolutely right! Just because it originally was a healthy vegetable, doesn't mean any way you prepare it is healthy too. There are many meals out there which actually consist out of healthy ingredients, but with all the sugar and extras added, it can't be considered as healthy anymore! Great post :)
