Life, a beautiful miracle
Studying astronomy made me realize how incredibly insignificant we are. Out of 200 billion galaxies in a time span of 13.8 billion years, it’s egotistical to think that the Universe gives a shit about who we are and what we do. In the grandest scheme of things, life inherently has no purpose, no meaning. Our existence is probably nothing more than a coincidence. Yet the reality is that we have come into existence in this time and place, to live out our lives and to explore our state of being in the world around us while we are alive. Whereas most creatures seem to live without any purpose whatsoever, the human civilization has come to define what the purpose of life is in many ways throughout history, and we have always listened to those people, most of whom we never knew. But when I realize that we as individuals have the power to define what our life purpose is – what we live for or who we live for – only because of the fact that it has no inherent, absolute purpose that has been predetermined for us; I can’t help but think that each of our lives is no mere coincidence but a beautiful miracle, regardless of what we believe in, or what we believe it is. Knowing that ultimately nothing you do or accomplish in your lifetime really matter to anyone or anything except to you and the ones you care about, empowers me to live and to do whatever my heart desires and my mind wills.
