Blacksong is an original song about about all of societies boxes.   We try to conform  ourselves to fit others ideas of perfection and we fail time and time again.    I wanted to do an in depth on the song and making of the track and music video because I feel like it is an important share and powerful piece of art.  

As a music artist I have faced judgements left and right and none more painful than the things people have said in my family and from my home town.  

A mother of two should not be doing music!

Shes to thin!! Shes on drugs!!

Shes gained weight and looks fat!!

Strong language in the music means its immoral!!

What is she doing in her photos?? Shes selling sex!!  shes too weird!!

YOU NEED TO STICK TO ONE GENRE!  

Im a music artist and I absolutely need to express myself in every way possible.   I have worked on many different genres of music and taken on many different names and images to represent a sound or audio art piece.   I come from a very religious background and transitioning this life was no easy task.    As I started my collaborative journey working with artists from all over the globe both over the wires and in person I found a lot of relating stories from others who also faced much judgement and also rejection.    

I am actually hopeful as I sit here and write this post.   I have seen much growth online and in the world around me with the birth of the internet and this outpouring of life and information.    More and more people are being accepted for who and what they are.    There is still a long way to go on the road to peace, but artists really help guide the way. 

Blacksong was originally a very rough acoustic song I had written in my early songwriting days and was spruced to life when produced by UK Hip Hop groups front man and producer Mike Thompson.   The song includes both male and female vocals from myself and Lunatic Fluid singer Brian Simms and a very meaningful rap verse from one of the groups rappers and lyricists TIME.     

When completing the track we really wanted to do something special for the video and decided to include clips of ourselves and other people, friends and family and people we knew online singing and dancing to the song.   

After its initial release there was a lot of love and also a lot of criticism as people didnt understand what kind of a song or group this was.  What Genre was this?   Who are these people?   We even had one lady give write a book about how no one would take us seriously with fat girls in our video.   NO JOKE!  This is exactly what the song was about and some people just didnt get it.

We really wanted everyone to have fun in the video, be themselves and also show a little bit of vulnerability!   we needed this video above all to come across as REAL!    This is real life, these are real people and real artist who make real music.   They are from different parts of the world,  they are different shapes and sizes with different looks and personalities, and they are all AMAZING PEOPLE!!
