Between two epochs

We were driving on the highway when I suddenly saw something disturbing - a very old Lada, left in the middle of nowhere, in the grass of the meadows along the highway.
For the first second, I thought it was abandoned there.

Without realizing that this is practically impossible. Nobody leaves their cars just like that - in the middle of a meadow. At least not that. And at least not on the highway. I don't know what extraordinary event must have happened for something like this to happen. And it is still impossible - there is no way to leave a car just like that.

I was so busy wondering why this car was there that I missed to see a man standing a little further down, with fishing rod in hand, by a pond, fishing under an old sun umbrella with patches on it.
So, not only his car was super old. But also his sun umbrella. And probably everything.

Then I started wondering something else.
What kind of people would continue to use such old objects and machines?
Are these very poor people?

No, I'm not talking about old-timer fans who are definitely not poor. Because in Bulgaria there are still people who continue to drive old Russian cars. Simply because they have no other option. And if any of you have ever driven such a car (because I have) - Lada, Zhiguli, Moskvich, etc. Including even Škoda, Wartburg and Trabant, he knows well that once he got out of such a car, he never wants to get in it again. 😆

So, what kind of person would continue to drive these 'carts'?
Ok, the cars I'm talking about are older than the Škoda Favorit, but I have these photos available, and they were taken very recently - last month.
Are these extremely desperate people who really can't afford anything? However, second-hand cars, which are the main vehicle in Bulgaria, are still not so expensive and unaffordable. And the difference between a car made in the former communist bloc and any old car made in the West is huge, really huge, unattainable. Getting into any other car, one feels as if you have suddenly gotten out of a cart in a carriage.

And I think you can really trust me, because that's how I felt when my father finally managed to change the old Lada for a second-hand Seat Cordoba, and I felt like I was riding in a carriage, a real limousine. 😅

Therefore, when I see people still driving these cars, I feel like frozen in time for seconds, as if time has stopped or there is a rift between two epochs - one epoch is long gone. The other has come a long time ago. But there are people who insist on staying in the old age - the one that is over and long gone. They do not want to enter the new one. That is why they are moving in a gap, a rift between these two epochs. Neither in one nor in the other.

This is not even a time machine, it is a non-existent time because it does not exist.

And then do these people exist at all? 🤔

steem.jpgSoul's Detour is a project started by me years ago when I had a blog about historical and not so popular tourist destinations in Eastern Belgium, West Germany and Luxembourg. Nowadays, this blog no longer exists, but I'm still here - passionate about architecture, art and mysteries and eager to share my discoveries and point of view with you.

Personally, I am a sensitive soul with a strong sense of justice.
Traveling and photography are my greatest passions.
Sounds trivial to you?
No, it's not trivial. Because I still love to travel to not so famous destinations.🗺️
Of course, the current situation does not allow me to do this, but I still find a way to satisfy my hunger for knowledge, new places, beauty and art.
Sometimes you can find the most amazing things even in the backyard of your house.😊🧐🧭|
