Hello my dear friends! Yesterday I promised you find a secret place in Kiev and tell you about it. Unfortunately because of the weather we did not find anything, but found an interesting place. This is St. Michael's monastery with golden top. My husband and I were here for the first time. We really enjoyed. From the heights of a beautiful view of Kiev.

History of St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery.

St. Michael's Monastery - the oldest cathedral in Ukraine. The first stone in its construction was laid in the 1108th year. Illustrious Prince Svyatopolk decided thus to perpetuate the victory over the Polovtsy Rus. At the same time it was built and the main cathedral - the Cathedral of the Archangel Michael. Should Michael's Cathedral on the edge of Old Kiev mountain, near St. Andrew's Church. During construction on the first of Kievan Rus dome was gilded. That's what he was promoted to Golden-Domed. The walls of the cathedral built of alternating rows of stone and brick flat. Temple also famous for its glittering mosaics and frescoes. Image, the mosaic, creating a shimmering effect when it is as if illuminated by the light, it seemed to go into the shadows. A well-known master of those years, owning this kind of painting, was a monk of the Kiev-Pechora Monastery Alimpiy. It is believed that it was he who designed the St. Michael's Cathedral. St. Michael's Monastery became the burial place of many of the Kievan princes. Over the centuries, the monastery has repeatedly been attacked by aliens, I have repeatedly been destroyed and looted, passed from hand to hand. Badly damaged the monastery during the Mongol invasion in the 1240th year, but ancient temple withstood the onslaught of the barbarians.
