Trouble with Miner.
I'm having trouble setting up my miner.
I have set up my miner according to the standard, recommended setup, and I'm supposed to be waiting until my computer syncs with the blockchain. On the website I was informed that it might "take a bit" and it has taken over 20 hours to this point. I'm going to include a screenshot of what's going on inside the client.

As you can see at the bottom: Started witness node on a chain with 760007 blocks. I've reset this client several times because it is syncing 10000 blocks at a time (or not?), and just as it has now, it has taken nearly half an hour if not more to give me no update on the progress of that sync.

Just an update, "Got block #770000 time: 2016-04-20T22:13:24" indicates that I must have just synced the 770000 block unit on the block chain. I don't know the total number of blocks, but syncing is taking an incredible amount of time, and I want to know if I need to check on something in particular that I may have done wrong. I will include the post that I used to get me pointed in the right direction below.

Wrote this post: http://steemit.com/steemit/@cryptos/getting-started-mining-steem-on-windows.
And it forms the basis for how I set the miner up.
If anyone has any recommendations, I would greatly appreciate them.

Mining doesn't work anymore, as of HF 18.
update to original post
It now says "396640ms ntp ntp.cpp:177 read_loop ] ntp_delta_time updated to 636519 us"
Unfortunately you are a bit late with the mining of Steem, as @neoxian mentioned.
(just found your post after the comment you left on mine)
You can always mine other currencies and trade them up for Steem though. :)
Do I need to buy a standalone miner to mine other currencies?
Any recommended guides for beginners (if i can just use my pc)...?

Which currencies did you have in mind? I haven't been active in the mining game lately but I would advise you check out the mining section on bitcointalk for more information.

I think the 3 that are interesting to me the most are bitcoin, ether, and bitshares. And I know that as of late the trend has been away from cpu/gpu based mining, I'm wondering if I can mine ether/bitshares without a dedicated stand alone miner.

Yeah you can still mine ether with GPU/CPU's and there are no Asics for it but plans are that it will turn POS at some point.
Do you know a miner program that will work for different currencies that works on windows/linux ?

Not for different ones no. Most of the coins I am interested in lately are Proof-of-Stake (BTS/STEEM).
Ethereum and Zcash are the only ones that are still mine-able and that I have had an interest in. Were you able to find any miners on that bitcointalk link I provided? (haven't been actively mining ever since my last GPU got burnt)
