Potato Peels to The Rescue

Real fast I just wanted to share a home remedy my mother used. Kids have a knack for getting dirt in their cuts and scraps, and even as adults we occasionally get messed up pretty bad. Well believe it or not Potato Peels have surprisingly effective restorative properties. Not only will it pull the dirt and grime out from the wound without the need to pick and scrap at it, but when it comes time to remove the bandage, it's painless.

This is no joke my friends, the Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology did a study on it in 1996 that reported, "The advantage of use of PP [Potato Peel] dressing is two fold. First it acts as a barrier and protects the wound against exogenous agents and secondly the cork layer of the potato peel prevents dehydration, thus it provides a moist environment which is the single most important factor for wound healing."

The results of their study had this to say, "The sites of PP dressing healed within 7 days, however even after 2 weeks at the site of conventional dressing the lesions persisted. Finally the conventional dressing was changed to PP dressing and the lesions healed within a week."

Despite the fact that It works extremely well and has been proven to produce better results than a standard bandage, It makes no sense that it's not more commonly known or used. So next time you accidentally burn yourself or get a dirty abrasion, sanitize a potato ( boil it, then let it cool before application) and try it out.

Although I haven't tried it and it certainly wasn't in the study, I hear
they work great for burns too. Lemme know if someone find any credible supporting
evidence. - PaKMan!
