OLD SCHOOL ANIMATION - Page corner animation I did in Biology class in 1998 -steemCreated with Sketch.

in #life7 years ago

Before 3D Printing, before 3D Animation and before CGI ..... there were books. And those books had pages, and those pages had corners. For any bored, creative kid at school, in the middle of class there was the opportunity to create a little movie magic.

When I was young I was a definite dreamer. I did well at school but spent most of the time off in my own head, or causing trouble! I enjoyed biology and the sciences but obviously the teachers were not the type to really grab my attention. This caused me to turn to doodling and scribbling in my books to pass time.

I managed to find one of my old Biology schoolbooks not so long ago. I was admiring the doodles and scribbles that I had managed to fill the book with, I would say that it was half full of school work and half full of doodles and scribbles, when I stumbled across one of my old page corner animations.

It bought a smile to my face and I thought I would share it with you all. I managed to photograph every page and then combine it into a stop animation program. This is all I have done, and apart from that it is as original as it was 20 odd years ago. It is pretty short and very random,

thanks!!!

This is very cool !! Now kids let a screen play them something, they just select what! This takes imagination skill and creativity. Just think what kids could achieve if they day dreamed and doodled. Never under estimate the power of the doodle. Thanks for this it bought back great memories!

Haha, yea it has been a while since I have seen anybody flicking the corner of a book and enjoying a little animation. It is a bit of an old art form now I suppose! You cant flick a kindle, but you can probably animate a whole movie instead ....... but its just not the same!

Good Luck!

I liked drawing perpetual things.
For example - a running horse, or a rolling soccer ball.
I would make 2 iterations and repeat them over and over.

It is also easy to print these stuff if you are ready to spend a dollar. Then from 2 seconds of running horse, one could make a minute of animation.

Yup I know what you mean, like the backgrounds in the old cartoons where they drew a building and a cactus in the background then 'looped' the animation to show the character running away from something and you would see the same cactus every two or three seconds.
Thanks for the comment!
