Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone

Living in your comfort zone is something that makes you feel safe and comfortable but in the same time is what keeps you from achieving new and bigger things in your life.

I know it's nice and warm being in there, even wikipedia agrees on that:

"A comfort zone is a psychological state in which things feel familiar to a person and they are at ease and in control of their environment, experiencing low levels of anxiety and stress. In this zone, a steady level of performance is possible."

But nothing great was ever accomplished within a comfort zone.

Yes, living in the ease of your comfort zone gives you a sense of safety and certainty but it wont - ever - help you reach something new and bigger.

As Neale Donald Walsch said "Life begins at the end of your comfort zone."

How can I stretch out of it?

Practice makes perfect they say, so let's see a few steps you can put in practice and help you start the journey out of your comfort zone:

  • Start with small things so you don't feel overwhelmed.
    For example, watch a movie you otherwise wouldn't watch, eat at a restaurant you have never been before or use public transportation to work if you normally drive.
  • Take smaller steps towards a big goal because it might feel scary enough and make you want to return in the warmth of the comfort zone.
  • Talk to people you don't know. If it feels scary, start with smiling to them and saying hi... You may be surprised :)
  • Wear something new, something you wouldn't normally wear.
    Start by wearing it at home, show it to your best friend and then wear it to the supermarket.
  • Eat something new, that you never had before. Maybe a fish you have never tried or something spicy, just give it a go.
  • Go to a place you normally avoid going. Visit a museum, an art gallery, go to a football match or go to a resturant you have never visited before.
  • Don't check your email and social media for an entire day (ok, steemit excluded! 😉).

Your comfort zone is what stands in your way to become the best version of you. Start by making some or all of the small steps above and you will prepare your self for the bigger achievements that are waiting for you.

Life is good and we can enjoy every moment of it.

Actually, boxes sometimes are good cause they define boundaries. They just need constant expansion...

I believe though that a self-conscious individual can set his/her own boundaries without having to live in any kind of a box.

A very important lesson, sometimes we should be able to think outside of the box
