Class Warfare: How the wealthy will further their advantages through bionics
In the not-too-distant future, bionics will completely revolutionize life. Many medical problems that society faces will be eliminated with this advancing technology. Bad Heart? Here's a new one. Liver Failure? Here's a new one. Want to be stronger? faster? see better? You get the idea. Theoretically, bionics have the potential to make us... immortal.
However, despite this incredible potential, a real risk exists with these advancements: When serious, life-extending, bionics truly hit the scene, they will only be available to the wealthy because of their inevitably high price.
This translates to the wealthy having (even) longer lives, and being in (more) favorable positions throughout it.
Imagine you are a health insurance company choosing between a normal person with uncertainty in their future health or a worker with a warranty-backed fresh heart. Clearly the artificial heart is an easier risk to access (and less overall risk), therefore they are given a preferential premium.
A scenario similar to the plot of GATTACA isn't too far fetched, when you really think about it...
