Are you having a creative road block? These habits might be the culprit.
Creativity is the core of evolution. When ever any society lacked creativity, it moved to stagnancy and got dusted in the whirlwind of time.
The best thing about creativity is we all have a fair share of it when we are born. We realize when we are into that creative zone and the flow feels good when it's strong. There is this realization of being tuned into some massive energy source from where you keep on drawing like there is no tomorrow. When one is into that creative mindset, working becomes effortless and it feels as if the concept of time has been wiped and there is a different level of satisfaction that can't be elaborated in words.
But, there is a slight problem, we can very well hinder it sometime by our own wrong doings.
There are certain habits and belief system pathways that doom out creative flow. If one individual gets caught into too many of such habits then one might altogether forget what it feels like to be creative.
However, there is a small fix. To get the creative juices flowing again, all one needs do is to shut oneself down for some time and then pounce out of our 'usual ways'.
If you try and give up on even one of the habits mentioned below, you shall see that your creative current again starts sensing the potential difference and flows like never before.
1. You start accepting from others, a lot of things
All of the creative individuals are those who contribute to others, rather than takers
They create something, that directly and indirectly add value to the world. They always contributed to those around them. Giving something to the society and folks around them is just a natural way of expressing who they are at their core. On the other hand those who are takers always want to leech from the givers and at times also misuse their potential. This can sometimes leads to being trapped in endless cycle with takers. Hence, try to surround yourself with the givers, rather than the takers. They are in tune with you and they resonate with you which helps you being boosted mentally, always! As quick fix, identify the individuals who take more than they contribute and start limiting the time spent with them. That way when you surround yourself with the givers and dump the takers, then your potential creativity shall know no bounds.
Gist :
Surround yourself with creative thinkers whose mental level and thinking is in tune with you, this way you and your creativity shall flourish without any hindrance2. Mindless internet browsing
Current world is full of distractions. We are always accompanied by tiny supercomputers wherever we are. As true with most of the science innovations, it can also be used to amplify our creativity or to doom it altogether. Based on a study by Flurry Analytics, it's reported that the US customers spend an average of around 5 hours per day on their phones. That time spent is well shared between activities like mindless scrolling of Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Tumblr, etc. This time of mindless browsing is never used for our creative pursuits.
Pay a close attention to your mobile usage habits and see what are your browsing patterns. How many times you just unlock the phone to check your Facebook feed and then start reading about the sex life of rhinoceros because you saw a link shared on your feed. Seems quite familiar, right? Chances are that when you realize this, you might feel bad for yourself!
Instead of quitting your obsession with mindless browsing, devote it to your passions as a replacement. That way picking up a new habit and quitting the older one becomes easier
When you using the phone, rather use it for your passion related research. Read the works of those who are your idols. When you are passionate about something, it should feel as if your bathing into that, then that passion shall know it's flourish point.
Gist :
Quit on the mindless browsing and replace that with the passions you have. That way you will have your procrastination time in alignment to your creative pursuits.3. Being way too much overly attached to your past
It's true that life can be understood backwards, but in order to live it to the fullest it should be approached forwards
Everyone of you reading this know that we should not be attached to or totally invested in our past. We all know what our goals are and what exactly should we be doing to achieve that. The problem here is even though we know the path to our goals, if the path is out of alignment with what we need to be rather than what we used to be, then there shall be a fair amount of resistance in achieving our end result. We all need to give up our past, who we really were and try to be who we want to be in order to achieve our creative pursuits. Past is only useful when it's used to learn from the mistakes, but the problem rises when one goes too deep into those mistakes and starts feeling overwhelmed by guilt and associated emotions.
Gist :
Let go of your past. Use the energy you spend on your past to shape your future by working in the present4. Build in bottom up manner
Whenever you ask a self help guru for getting something unique done, they might advise you to think big and change the world. But, things don't work that way. One needs to identify what they are passionate about. Once they find passion(s), then they need to master the craft at basic level. All the details lie in the smaller fragments. When you combine the smaller fragments then you see the big picture. The bigger your dream is, the more number of small tasks and micro goals you will have to achieve. So, it's not a one shot way to the top of building something epic, rather it's a marathon of many smaller sprints. The world is full of dreamers who keep on building castles in the sky every damn day, but don't do something related. The approach should be after you done crafting your dream, start thinking and acting small, really small. After all these pixels would make an HD image, isn't it?
Gist:
Dream Big! Have vision beyond the horizon, but think and act in small chunks. Be quite consistent in your small actions.5. Pay attention to your work but never expect guaranteed results
Yes, you read that right! You have all the rights in this world to do your prescribed duties but you are never entitled to savor the fruits of your actions. There is nothing like guarantee in this universe. There is no sure thing. That is why you should never use a guaranteed return on investment as a source of motivation to create something. Because if you do, you are at a severe risk of going dull and not doing anything creative at all when your most ambitious project didn't bear the fruits you expected. Failure is quite common among those who are successful and are at the top. It shaped their entire career in fact. The only difference between you and your CEO is you might quit after an attempt but he didn't even after multiple failures in projects where he gave his 100 percent.
Gist :
Give up on the guarantees and create just for the joy of the process. Don't pay much attention to the fruits of your labor, rather work hard and be creative because you simply love the processExpand your horizons of Thinking
Creativity shall come in many ways, whether it is investing less energy and time in useless pursuits like mindless browsing or thinking way too much about your past, the endgame is to generate more creative power and yield a meaningful life for yourself where you love what yo do!
Creative thinking should come naturally and when you step out of your usual boring self clinging to the same destructive ways of life, creativity shall start to pour out of you brain cells and trust me you will love the experience when that happens! :)
