When I grew up I had to sit down with mum and eat dinner at the table.

She made me do it.

My mum was a leader.

I am now grateful.

No TV, no tablets, and no phones.

No sitting on the couch.

No video games.

No arguing.

Good food and good company even if I was too young to appreciate it fully at that time.

It was a treat to have the cricket on when dinner was served and this was the only exception to the rule (one day cricket in the 80's was awesome).

I loved these nights.

I was lucky as mum loved the cricket.

We both loved to see the opening stages of the world series cricket.

Ritchie Benaud, that first ball, and the energy of the crowd.

Dean Jones walking out to bat was exciting to me.

He changed the way cricket was played back then and look at it now.

This was when life was real.

When we talked.

When we shared.

My mum is gone now.

My mum is still a leader though!

She was the best!

I don't have a family however I know what I would be teaching them if I did.
