Why You Can Never Satisfy Everyone (Lessons From A Childhood Tale)
Sometimes when I feel tired of being an adult, I take a trip down the nostalgia lane and reminisce about my childhood days. I think it is safe to say that childhood is the golden period of anybody’s life where you are carefree about most things in life.
Everything is possible when you are a child and everything initiates curiosity within you and you basically live in this alternate dimension of a world, one with fairies and unicorns, where the world is this nicest place there could be. We are just so innocent when we are at that stage of life.
I think that is why parents tell us these bed time stories to teach us valuable lessons and sort of try to give us a glimpse of the true nature of the world and the people in it.
My mother used to tell me a lot of these stories as well and those are my favourite childhood memories. Today, I was reminded of one such story which is actually quite popular in the world as kids’ story.
Father, Son and the Donkey
Once upon a time, on a sunny day, a father and his young son were walking down a country road along with their donkey. Not too long after leaving their home, they came across a group of people.
As they were passing these people by, they heard them remark that they where stupid for not using a perfectly good donkey to make their travels less tiresome. Hearing this, the father told his son to sit on the donkey for the rest of the journey and so he did.
After some time, they came across a group of men who remarked how heartless the young boy was for letting his father walk in the sun while he sits comfortably. Hearing this, the son got down and the father got on the donkey.
Then they travelled some more and after some time, came across some women. One of them told the father how heartless he was for letting his son walk in the terrible heat. Hearing her, the father advised the son to get on the donkey with him and now they both rode the donkey.
After some time, they came across another group of people who told them how cruel they were as both their weight was just too much for the poor donkey.
No matter what the father and son did, people always had something bad to say.
The Moral of the Story
The moral of the story is that you simply cannot satisfy every single person you meet in your life and that is because of one simple reason. We are all different and have unique opinions about every single thing.
Therefore, if you try to please everyone, you will most definitely fail to do so. We see this happen with everyone and every thing. Even the most successful and kind hearted people have critics.
Even the most innovative companies and their cutting edge products have haters who simply loath them and their way of doing things. Even the best movies have people hating on them!
Another reason for this also could be our own belief that we are better at something than the other person even though we may not know squat about the said thing.
So, don’t waste your life trying to please everyone. Do as you please and live life according to your own wishes. Peace out!!
I love the story.
Yeah me too.
good post
Thanks :)
Thanks for taking us down memory lane. I agree that you cannot not satisfy everyone. It is not that each has their need but there is a tendency that people think they are better than you not knowing that simple things make a huge difference for those who appreciate a helping hand. Thanks for the inspiring story.
Haha that’s so true. People always think they know far better than everyone else at virtaully everything.
I've always said: "You've got to be yourself, to free yourself" Upvoted!

True :)
Yes you are right. So the way is just to satisfy yourself. At the end thats the most important thing for every person.
True that!
meh,, you just cant.. im actually happy if people just leave me alone lol
nice post btw !! :)
Yeah people won’t leave you alone but you can try to drown them out.
@sauravrungta - This is perfectly true. People who think too much about what others will say will end up trying to find a way to please everyone and in the process, end up procrastinating. The procrastination naturally deters their progress in life.
Well said. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Upvoted full.
