Which Superhero Would You Be If You Could Be One?
A few days ago, Marvel released the first trailer for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and I just cannot contain myself. Superhero movies are my absolute favorite and Marvel has done a brilliant job of producing one compelling movie after the other.
Yes, DC has some great movies under its belt too, but I don’t prefer the overall ‘tone’ of their movies, but that’s just me. Anyways, the topic of today’s discussion is superheroes.
We have all been mesmerized by all the various awesome abilities that they depict so perfectly these days in movies (thanks to CGI) that one can’t help but want the same for themselves too!
Who wouldn’t want to fly as free as a bird in an Iron Man suit or summon lightning from the sky using a hammer that no one else can lift and feel like a total badass, amirite? Of course, I am! So, if you could be a superhero, which one would you like to be?
Superpowers Are Awesome
There’s no denying that superpowers are awesome and we have all discussed how cool it would be to have one. Of course, our own personalities are reflected in the choices that we make and that’s the fun part.
Personally, I would like to be Doctor Strange or have his powers and abilities because, I have always been awed by the mystics. If you don’t already know, he is a sorcerer who is regarded as ‘the mightiest magician in the cosmos’ in the Marvel Universe.
He is not only proficient in the mystic arts but has access to several mystical entities that allow him to do all sorts of super cool magical stuff, including having access to other dimensions! Thanks to his Cloak of Levitation, he is also able to fly, which is another superhero ability that most people would like to have.
But wait, theres more! He also has the power of intangibility, transmutation, telekinesis, teleportation, time manipulation, and much more. Having just one of these abilities would be an absolute thrill. Imagine being a superhero who has all these!
But, Would It Be Worth It?
So, now comes the serious part. When the topic of having a superpower is discussed, we immediately go into an imagination mode where we visualize all the cool things we would be able to do with such powers.
But if you think about it more carefully, and consider the reality of such a weight on your shoulders, then the veil of superficial pleasure is lifted. You see, with great power comes great responsibility.
It would be so easy to misuse your powers into getting whatever you wanted and if you have even a shred of impurity in you (as most humans do), those powers could quickly corrupt you. There is another saying which is appropriate here. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Even if you manage to subside the negative tendencies of the human mind, you would feel obligated to help mankind with your abilities. If you don’t, your power would start to feel meaningless after a certain amount of time. Yes, after some time, even the unimaginable pleasures start to become tasteless.
This is why, the superhero genre often portrays the kind of internal fight that rages within the superheroes where they must overcome the most important fight, the fight within, in order to justify holding their powers.
I think, what I am trying to say is, would the gravity of being a superhero be worth it or living simple lives like we are today seem more alluring to such a being? We might never know.
Batman... Christian Bale version not this Ben Affleck crap
Yes, Christian Bale's Batman was awesome. I didn't like the new one either.
haha..why you post such post that I got to do so much of brain storming all day :P
haha, I like to make people think :P
One day friend you will end up finding answers to all your question. Seems like with your blog the puzzle of 3A will be solved AI Alien and Algorithms.
Anyway coming over to a superhero and an ordinary life. These stories of power are more grounded into failure-& success. Every superhero has tragic story of past filled with agony and failure cowardice and his subsequent makeover into a responsible powerful being. A total eclipse of past defeat into glorified welfarism. These stories create a world of escapism for the audience to imagine an overnight empowerment. I think this very sense of empowerment is what allure us towards these characters.
They are far from realism but they are a bundle of motivation to imagine our better selves.
There are benefits and liabilities to being any of the Marvel superheroes as your well written article described. However If I could be more of a superhero I would choose to be like the greatest superhero of all time. Not a conventional superhero of the Marvel collection yet one better. Jesus. He conquered death in our place that we may live for all peoples and all ages of times. What a superhero!! Great post Thanks so much.
haha yeah, I guess being a God would trump all others :D
Yes, there are a lot of negatives to having superpowers. The crushing sense of responsibility, alienation of loved ones, barely any work-life balance.. But on the plus side..
"Dormammu! I've come to bargain!"
LOL, It would be worth it just to say that last line!! :D
I have to go with spiderman, have some cool powers, one of the most recognizable outfits, and without the costume he is just a regular boy with regular problems that anyone can identify with.
Yeah, a lot of people would like Spidey's powers for sure.
I had seen this movie, and when I read the post title my answer was also dr strange, and quotes u used and way you explained I loved it ☺
Yeah, he really is an awesome character :) Thanks for the kind words.
Life hits you hard. But it takes you three seconds to decide if you are a superhero or not. I am.
@funnystuff
So true!
Thanos with his Infinity Gems, i.e. Being God.
haha, it would be pretty cool to see how they portray Thanos with all those powers.
The rendering of Thanos in the recent Infinity War trailer does not look good, IMO:
And I cannot dissociate the voice from Josh Brolin's normal speaking voice.
Yeah, his cameo in the previous movies was much better with a purple skin and some body armor.
To be honest i'd even ok to be lame ant-man for not to have normal simple life. :)
hahah Ant man is not lame :P
strong people no need to fight.
They only protect the weakest
yes that is correct.
You're my hero :)
