Do You Always Need A Plan?
It is true what they say. Life doesn’t come with a script. Imagine being asked to perform a play on stage without a script and without a rehearsal, so that you have absolutely no idea what to say or do while the audience is eagerly watching!
That is pretty much what life is. We have next to no idea about how it is going to be in the future, what we are ’supposed’ to do, who we are supposed to do it with, and yet we feel this need to do ‘something’ because everyone else seems to be doing something too.
I guess it really is true what William Shakespeare said, “All the world’s a stage, all the men and women merely players.”
Naturally one would think that for something as uncertain as life, it would serve us well if we could come up with a script, a plan to sail the ship of life in our desired direction. But, do we always need a plan? Is a grand plan even possible? Or is the sea just too powerful?
Taking A Leap of Faith
If you really think about it, we are all taking leaps of faith constantly in our lives. When you’re making a career choice for example, you don’t know how things are going to work out, and you still move forward with it.
Likewise, be it a new job, a new relationship, a new neighbourhood, a new internet provider or any other decisions, we are all taking leaps of faith. Sure, we make an informed decision to the best of our ability, but we can never say for certain how things are gonna work out.
So, I guess what I’m trying to say here is that if you’re trying to make a difficult life decision and just can’t seem to decide what to do and all you want to do is listen to you heart, it is OK to take that leap. We are doing it anyways, right?
In fact, the world that we see today, all the technology we are using today and all the great deeds that great men and women have done, none of it was planned. People just started doing things and rolled with it!
Somehow if you just start something, and give it your best, eventually, one thing will lead to the other and the path that you want to walk on will start getting built one brick at a time.
Great People Never Planned For Greatness
When Larry Page and Sergey Brin were building Google in a garage, they had absolutely no idea that it would be a $650 billion dollar company today or that their mobile operating system would be running in 90% of the world’s smartphones! They took a leap, chased their dreams passionately, accomplished things one by one and look at where they are today.
When Steve Jobs was working with Steve Wozniak in his garage, they didn’t have the remotest idea that their company would go on to become the richest company in the world.
Likewise, there are many great people in history, who could never have foreseen what they were going to achieve and how they were going to change the whole world, let alone plan for it!
But they still did and that’s the point I’m trying to make here. If you have passion burning in your heart, and if you truly believe in something, take the plunge. You don’t need to worry about a grand plan and know exactly how everything is going to work out and get anxious due to it.
Nike’s tag line comes to mind. Just do it! Do you know how many people quit just because of all the uncertainties in their mind and all the what ifs? I am guessing it’s a lot. But those that don’t care about all this stuff are usually the ones who end up conquering the peak.
At last, I just want to say that, “When you’re driving a car at night on a pitch black road, you don’t have to see the entire road to complete your journey. Just the 10 feet in front of you.”

Even i like the entire post very much, the very best part of it (to me) is the very LAST paragraph. Thanks
Thank you so much for the appreciation :)
Taking a leap of faith is exciting and potentially rewarding, but I would say that it should most often be based on a pros and cons valuation where pros are equal to or greater than the cons.
Driving a car on a pitch black road being able to see 0 feet in front of you would probably not be such a good idea if you value life.
Different people have different ways to calculate pros and cons thus some people are more risk averse than others.
Hearing stories about people taking a leap of faith is something most of us enjoy. It makes us feel more free to act upon our dreams, but again one should also keep in mind that most new businesses / projects fail within a few years.
So; I totally agree with you that one should go a long way to pursue a passion, but do also weigh up the pros and the cons. Some kind of a compromise might result in a greater sence of happiness.
Just a thought

Nicely put. I believe it's important to pursue your dreams and aspirations even if the risks are fairly greater. Yes, of course the pros and cons are needed to be weighed but I think we could do that after we have decided to finally pursue our dreams.
Nothing wrong with a good plan, But if you wait until you get all your ducks in a row, you will never cross the street!!
Blessings to you!!
Yeah, exactly. Most people waste their time getting all their ducks in a row.
I always say, when I Die, I never, ever want to have to say, " I wish I had..."
Exactly. I wish to have no regrets as well.
Great post.Thanks
Thank you for reading :)
Hi @sauravrungta - I think it's one of our biggest lessons to trust and not try and have it all worked out beforehand. I packed my bags three years ago and moved countries, just based on a "feeling". No plan whatsoever.
I have learned that my biggest accomplishments and joys come as a result of not having a plan.
An intention is always needed (I think...) but a plan is not.
What do they say, "Life happens while you're busy making other plans."
Let's not miss it :)
I love this line, "An intention is always needed, but a plan is not." Nicely said :)
Interesting postings that I need to follow @sauravrungta
Thank you for reading :)
Great article
Thank you :)
great post I think we need a mix of both , most of the time we should plan and just sometimes go with the flow (just sometimes)
There are 2 things in this world, one is your plan and the other is God's plan, and every time your plan will fail against God's will, so forget about your past, enjoy the present and do not worry about your future @sauravrungta
Thanks for the motivation man, :)
hehe, I guess we all have our own ways of dealing with life :)
Well said! Whatever the mind can conceive the body can achieve. I believe faith is, the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen. So you're right, we have to step out on faith in life not knowing the outcome of our work.
I believe you are talking about law of attraction? If so, yeah, I believe in it too :)
