Saving The Colors (A Poem Inspired by Dealing with Bickering Parents)
When I am undisturbed for a few days
I become calm like the breeze that blows through the dracaenas.
And quieter than an ant, tiptoeing on a pillow.
And sparks of colorful ideas will start bouncing around and filling up my brain.
And my heart will open its doors and invite everyone in.
But when I am attacked, or strangled, or pulled-apart, or heart-torn, or simply required too much,
then I shut down.
And deafening rings build up against my ears.
And I'll keep a sword by my side. And I will lash out against any intruders.
Just to protect that last bit of color.
