Don't be SAD, get some sunshine! DAY 4 of 7 day challenge to MOVE THAT BODY

in #life7 years ago

Here in Las Vegas it is a beautiful sunny day at 63 degrees today. It is abnormally warm here so far this winter but where ever in the world you may be, it is so very important to get outside, breathe fresh air, get sunlight and connect with nature even if for just as little as 10 minutes each day.

Winter brings with it shorter days and longer nights which obviously leads to less exposure to sunlight. Many people find themselves getting depressed for what they consider no reason but this actually has a name - SAD, seasonal affective disorder. SAD is a form of depression that is triggered by changing seasons most prevalent in winter.

Exposure to sunlight has been proven to increase the brain's release of seratonin levels, a neurotransmitter in the brain that is associated with motivation level, focus, relaxation and generally a happier mood.

And that is what today's challenge to move your body is ... to get up, get outside and just take a brisk 10-15 minute walk. No need to even change into workout clothes!

That is it. Moving the body is not just about getting in physical shape. There are so many benefits in addition including boosting brain activity and especially mental health. There is no better help for someone who is suffering from depression than exercise and I will talk a lot more about this in future blogs.

I will be back tomorrow with DAY 5 but to all my friends in Steem land have a blessed weekend :)

You need to come visit Las Vegas!

This is going to be lame but do you like sprinting?

I am slightly competitive so I do enjoy winning or placing in my age group in local 5K's so when training I will do a little sprinting but it's not my main running style. I enjoy going for a long run much more!
