PROGRESSING BACKWARDS?

We as a society should progress don't you think? so how comes that the general feeling is that instead of going forward, we are going backwards? There are many examples today which stand out clearly, ie: The overwhelming sensation that political corruption as no remedy and that to a certain point, is fairly normal? the word "democracy" is used on election days as if it was practised when in reality it is manipulated for those in power or elected to do so when politicians promise to do this or that, they never accomplish with their promises, neither are they obliged to by law? The money they need to get into power is provided by those of which wait to gain the same favour in return when their inversion is in a position of power, and that doesn't seem to be very democratic does it, well that's what they're selling us and many people are still buying it?
