The Helpful Guide: Low Budget TravellingsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #life6 years ago

I was wondering how should I start off my writing career. Whether I should talk about more complex topics or about something playful and informative. However because of my recent trip to Macedonia, and because there is too much going on in certain areas, I leaned towards the latter option.

So here I present to you my tips and tricks to low budget travelling.

Step 1:
Choosing your destination.

If you are like me, you don't really care where you go, as long as it's somewhere new. To help you with that, there are a lot of apps and websites that provide special deals from airlines which are most of the time very cheap .

Apps like Kiwi, eSky, Skyscanner, LuckyTrip list you currently best flight deals there are. The prices go as low as 10£. I paid around 20£ for ticket from Slovakia to Macedonia. However, if you want to bring more than personal handbag, select your seats on plane or get insurance from the company you will pay more.
One big tip that I can give you is that you research the rules of the company you are flying with. I paid 65£ fee for not checking online beforehand.

If you are 18 and part of the EU, you are entitled to have FREE train transport across the whole EU. This only applies to 18 year olds, so if you are one take your chance and travel as much as you can.

Step 2:
Choosing accommodation

Airbnb, CouchSurfing(free accommodation), Booking.com and others mentioned above are all options to look for place to stay. Don't settle for the first good one you find. There is always better, you just have to look properly. Always check the reviews from other users to know what problems you might face. On the last day, ask till when do you have to leave the room and ask if they can provide you with some space to store your luggage if you are leaving in the night and still want to explore the city. Most accommodations will do so with no problem.

Couchsurfing app is different from others as it doesn't require you to pay anything. It works on the principle that travellers from all around the world share their homes with each other and get to know each other. This might just work better if you travel solo.

Step 3: Activities and transportation

Some of the apps already mentioned show you restaurants, cultural places and many different activities that you might find interesting. However this depends solely on what you want to do. TripAdvisor is a great app for recommending places of all sorts, definitely a sign of reliability. I would encourage to watch some travelling vlogs in country you want to visit. Many will provide you with personal insights that you might not find anywhere else.

Transport, around the city or to place somewhere further, depends on how expensive the lifestyle of the country is. When I was in Macedonia everything was really cheap so we didn't have that much of a problem with transport, although overpriced taxi drivers are everywhere.
However, in most countries using apps like Uber, Taxify, HOPINTAXI or BlaBlaCar might be a better option.

Step 4:

Enjoy yourself and try not to stress it out so much
