Let's talk about #1: Motivation
so i want to start a new series talking about different topics and things i just don't want to keep to myself :)
today i was thinking about motivation. why is is so hard for us people to stay motivated? why is it so hard to get out of our comfort zone and what do i need to do to get up and go?
in my opinion it's really hard to stay motivated because of all the other people we compare ourselves to. as a student you have exames to pass, as a mother you have other mothers that compare your kids behaviour, as a wife you try to be your best, as a married couple you try to show the world how happy you are, as a worker you try to please your boss,... etc. you know the drill.
as you can see it's a never ending story. no wonder you lose you motivation throughout your life. we have this pressure to be better than the other, to earn more money as fast as possible to afford the next thing that's on the list. when does this pressure fade? is it my fault that i have no motivation or is it society?
me for example: i have a gym membership. at the beginning i was really motivated. i went in the mornings, during the day or even on the evenings after work. why did i stop? when you have your routine you just do it, but then you are on vacation and you don't think about the gym. after vacation you are frustrated because of the well known post-vacation-depression! you guys know that, right? so my vacation was over a month ago and i still couldn't start going to the gym. i tell myself and my husband yeah, tomorrow i'll go but until today i didn't.
i just think that everyone is born with different levels of motivation. some people just need a little push and some others debate with themselves for much longer. we all have different things within us that drive us and call us to be motivated towards the things we want to accomplish. as for me i know that i'll feel a lot better after going to the gym and that's what makes me more frustrated when i stay at home.
nevertheless, i think that we stress ourselves too much. sometimes our gaols are set to high that it's almost impossible to reach them. maybe i should say i'll go to the gym once a week instead of i'll go to the gym at least four times a week. it's a lot easier for me to reach that goal and if i do, i'll go the day after again 'cause i feel great. your motivation raises, your confidence increases and you are more relaxed and balanced.
so i really motivate yourself to start with baby steps. do whatever you can without feeling overwhelmed. you'll see what difference it makes and you'll feel a lot better and live a content life :)
take care...
You can use the 30 day rule to your advantage, after 30 days a habit becomes automatic and you do not need to continue working on or consciously, if you do not follow your habit you will feel bad subconsciously. In my opinion even less time works.
now i just have to make going to the gym a habit :)
