Disney To No Longer Produce Star Wars Stories Following Disappointment Of “Solo”
Well, this is a bummer. Solo, which ended up sort of breaking even with its box office of $400 million, according to Variety, was deemed a failure, leading to rumors that Disney will no longer be producing movies in the Star Wars Story franchise, focusing instead on the Star Wars Trilogy. This may mean no more Logan director James Mangold Boba Fett movie, no Hours director Stephen Daldry Obi Wan Kenobi spin-off, and I guess none of the masterpiece any of us wanted to actually see… a Donald Glover Lando Calrissian movie.
The reason behind this could be to avoid Star Wars fatigue, although this doesn’t take into account a lot of the unique elements of Solo’s release. Solo premiered at the end of a month which began with two massive Marvel movies, one of which (Avengers: Infinity War) took the zeitgeist by storm. Why kids all over America were all saying, “I don’t feel so good”… but for a very good reason this time (because they liked it… click the hyperlink, folks)! Maybe America didn’t have room in its heart for that much science fiction.
What’s more, Solo premiered a few months after “The Last Jedi”. For a fandom that loves obsessing over every tiny detail of its beloved franchise, maybe this was Star Wars too many. Or, maybe the directorial switcheroo that came in the middle of production — with idiosyncratic Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street directors Chris Lord and Phil Miller being replaced by Apollo 13’s Ron Howard — seemed more like a red flag than need be.
This sucks so hard, and makes the gamergate psychos look like they accomplished something https://t.co/8Kbwklz66l

Yeah, I don’t like those same fans that drove Kelly Marie Tran off Twitter feeling so good about this. If you all hate Star Wars so much, why don’t you go watch something else? Not something I like though! You’d make that weird too.
This also does not impact the upcoming trilogy’s, including Rian Johnson’s and Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss’ plans to move forward.
