choosing between president trump for {Europe}

There are ~50 countries in Europe and ~50 states in the USA, so your mileage may vary. I assume you’d like to compare the USA with life in Western Europe, e.g. Britain, France, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden… (rather than, the Ukraine, where a low-level war is going on). As you might expect, it still varies a lot, and the rural/urban difference is a big thing. And it’s a subjective question

i hear both are relatively well-off and safe places to live compared to much of the world.

Basically, life in Europe is better for the large majority of people — certainly for the poor, but also for the middle-class. Arguably it’s better for the rich too - they pay more in tax, but benefit from lower crime and community tensions.

Comparing like-for-like between the people I know (hardly science, I know) — the software engineers and doctors are better off in the USA, but other university-educated people are better off in Britain. They work less hours, and have more security and actual freedom. Racism, sexism, and homophobia are overall lower in Western Europe (though they still exist, and racism is on the rise in both places). Violence is lower. Happiness indexes tend to say Europe is happier, and apparently Denmark or Iceland are about the best places in the world to live.

Why i ask my self a question as i am seated here ? Europe has universal health-care, much more holidays (the minimum in the UK is 28 days a year), generally better schools, mostly free university (not England), and stronger job rights. Personal debt tends to be lower. Western Europe is capitalist with a socialist welfare-state safety net, and that works better for most than the more dog-eat-dog capitalism found in the USA.

Western Europe also has overall better transport - partly because European cities (& countries) are smaller and more compact. I like the compactness - in my city (Edinburgh) I can walk across town in 1/2 an hour and it’s a beautiful walk. I can do a day trip to London at the other end of the country, because it’s a small country. The flip side is that houses are smaller. The US has more space but i think africa is more of free land

Having sung the praises of current Western Europe, over the course of a lifetime, you may expect some changes, especially as economies rise and fall. A big variation within Western Europe is unemployment. Spain has a high unemployment rate (over 20%) as does Greece, whilst the UK, Germany, and USA are about 4-5%.
