Recently I attended a Marketing Workshop by MOM (Mad over Marketing) at IIT-Bombay. Here's the Crux of the session where they talked about Topics like Porn Hub, Condoms & Sanitary Napkins which I scribbled in my diary.


Believe me, Despite of this being a bold topic & not being discussed in public, it has so much to learn from. You might feel inconvenient or Embarrassed to talk about Porn or Sanitary pads, but let's accept the fact & Understand how it goes on with the market.

Here's the conclusion.

Porn Hub

You know who they are, even if you pretend you don’t. “Pornhub?” you ask. “What’s that?” They’re the site that moves more traffic than Facebook, Steemit, Amazon, Netflix or Pirate Bay. But even with Pornhub’s pervasive presence as a cultural undercurrent, mainstream media channels still won’t let them advertise their services.

Most recently, Pornhub grabbed headlines for holding a Safe-For-Work advertisement contest, asking their creatively-inclined users to come up with a new national advertising campaign.

  • It’s the elephant in the room. It’s sleazy. It’s taboo. Everyone knows it’s there but no one’s going to intentionally talk about it.
  • The world’s first adult film shot in space: Sexploration. The result is a thoroughly entertaining event that leaves the audience wondering if Pornhub is actually being serious. It received huge media coverage and was featured on sites you’d expect like Vice or Maxim but also on those you didn’t like Discovery news and The Washington Post.

Here’s A Quick Recap Of Pornhub’s Word-Of-Mouth Strategies:

  1. Found an unexpected angle to create buzz through shock and awe.
  2. Partnered with the right media outlets to change how Pornhub is perceived.
  3. Did something absolutely ridiculous and invited the world to be part of it.
  4. Generated word-of-mouth under the guise of selling impractical products.
  5. Practiced the right level of self-censorship to let it’s message go further.
  6. Love your greatest fans and they will love you too.
  7. Create controversy, that’s something people love talking about.

Condoms

Durex sure makes us Crazy Over Advertising! I love the wit, the creativity and the humor. If you do too, don’t forget to Resteem this post with your followers!

Durex, the condom brand, has been around for decades now. But what we love about it is that it continues to reinvent itself through its ads.
It's witty print and online advertisements are smart, funny and do the job perfectly!*

  • What's the key utility?
  • They don’t tell you it’s cheap (cause well let’s face it, it isn’t), but the opportunity cost is very high. And how beautifully is that communicated.
  • For eg: DUREX advertises as "To all those who use our competitor's product... Happy Father's Day!!!" The subtlety with which they have communicated the message is to die for!
  • If there is any brand which has been successful in talking about sex without objectifying women, it has to be Durex.
  • What’s a condom for? To make sure the swimmers don’t leave the pond, and Durex makes sure they communicate it in their own special way too.

    (For eg: Angry Birds game themed Durex Advt.)

Sanitary Napkins

  • Clutter- Advertising is everywhere.
  • Women bleed red, not blue: First sanitary pad ad that shows ‘period blood’
    The ad shows a hand pouring a red liquid onto a sanitary pad, followed by a shot of a woman in the shower with blood droplets running down her legs.
  • 3 things to note. Attention, Perception & message minimally.
  • Stayfree’s 2008 commercial ran with the tagline ‘Kisi bhi roop ke sath samjhauta nahi’
  • While marketing sanitary pads to their Indian consumers, most ads are concocted under one theme – women empowerment.
    The girls jump fences, run for social causes, become abnormally bright and breezy, and why? Because they’re wearing a sanitary pad. These pads will protect them, save them and boost their confidence.
  • We've all seen those ridiculous, over-exaggerating statements that sanitary napkin ads make. Yes, the ones that show a pad being thrown in a big pool, and sucking dry the water of the pool. Seriously, guys? And how can we forget the ads where a girl is empowered to run or jump fences for a social cause because she just changed her pad. Slow claps

This was something I thought might help you understand something that is less talked about in our Society, Since it is considered a Stereotype. I hope that this makes sense to you. My Only motive through this was to spread the awareness & the Marketing Strategies that these products use.

Pads are very helpful for women but better to buy those recommended pads by physicians to avoid UTI.
