The Maldivian army surrounds the parliament

Attorney General Mohammad Anil, who was sitting beside the army and police chief on Sunday morning, told the news agency AFP and Reuters, the government has found that the Supreme Court will soon order President Yamin to arrest him. Referring to such a move as 'unconstitutional', the Attorney General said, the army will reject it if the Supreme Court gives such a direction.

According to the news agency Xinhua, the army has surrounded the country's parliament on Sunday in the ongoing deadlock. The army has surrounded the parliament building to prevent opposition lawmakers from entering Parliament. Parliamentary Secretary General Ahmed Mohammad announced his resignation on Sunday morning without mentioning specific reasons.

Earlier, the Supreme Court ordered the release of opposition leaders in prison on Thursday. But the Yemen government rejected the order and yesterday suspended parliament session on Saturday. As well as refusing to call on the international community to comply with court orders.

The Maldivian Supreme Court said in a historic order that nine political prisoners will be released immediately. These nine are opposition leaders. Among the prisoners are former president Mohamed Nasheed. The court said, the case filed against these political prisoners is politically motivated. Besides, the court has also ordered to bring 12 law enforcers expelled. The withdrawal of the 12 lawmakers from the Maldivian opposition party will get a majority in the 85-member legislature.

In 2015, Nasheed was disqualified for his involvement in terrorism.

The United Nations, Australia, UK, Canada, India and the United States welcomed the direction given by the Supreme Court of Maldives and said it was an important step in bringing democracy back to the country.
