I'm sure many people would have better relationships if they heeded such advice more regularly! I'm sure your mother-in-law adores that time spent with you. I think sometimes people fail to realize it is an honor to have someone want to share with you! As you pointed out, it is beneficial on both sides of the interaction. I think that's why I tend to work well with the older men that I train. Some of them don't care as much about the physical activity I give them, but more so the interaction and time to share their stories with me. One of my favorite clients was a 90-year-old gentleman who I used to love to listen to. The stories he had were fascinating!
