Day 2 of the 31 Day Writing Challenge: What the Ice sounds like
Task 2:
Write where you are. Take the next ten minutes and write what you feel, see, taste, smell, hear and think right now.
To a skater, the crunching noise on the ice as you push of is ultimately a good sign. It means that your blades are wonderfully sharp enough to grip the ice, keeping you grounded despite the jumping and the spinning. It is quite a delightful sound. I am sitting at the student's area, tired, drained, sweat dripping down the side of my face unto my leggings. Tonight we're having rehearsals for an upcoming competition. The coaches are running to and fro, sorting out skaters' music, sequences and order. The parents in the sidelines, watching every little thing their skating children are performing.
My breathing heavy, in and out, too fast paced. The cold leaving my body as I stepped foot on the rubber mat, I can feel the blood rushing throughout my body, and it's so warm. Too hot. My hands are shaking as I write. I've always appreciated our resting area. The light from the rink doesn't reach us here, it's a safe little haven that gives your eyes the rest they need. The sole of my feet are sore, as the protective padding inside my skates have started to wear down. I could feel the wood work and the cork sole. Yes, figure skating boots have cork or lightweight wooden soles, a body of pure leather, and laces covered in wax.
The humidity is starting to catch up on me and I don't not appreciate how it feels on my skin. Sticky and wet. I reached out for my water, and it was oh so good. Water could never been this good, it was the most delicious beverage at the moment.
I contemplate as to weather or not I want to continue practicing, I'm very tired, but I don't want to miss out on the ice. I love hearing the loud thuds as a skater falls from a jump, or the that particular sound the ice makes as the blade spins on it. My back is tired, my shins feel cramped, and my head is aching from spinning to much. I see a mother trying to solve payment disputes. Why does it cost so much to do what I love?. I shook my head and stared at my boots, noticing the scratches and discoloration, and I've also damaged the wooden sole. Despite the exhaustion I feel, I realized I would gladly do this again and again and again.
And that's for the 2nd day of the 31 Day Writing Challenge prompted by @arbitrarykitten . I did appreciate how much concentration and words I needed to try and accurately describe what it is I'm experiencing at such a moment. Never doubt, this was finished in 10 minutes, I have high typing speed. Writing about details entails you take notice of them. And when you see them, tiny details that makes the bigger picture a lot more beautiful, you will learn to take matters to the heart. I hope you guys enjoyed, thanks for stopping by and if you have thoughts and comments, please feel free to leave it below. All the love! xx
You describe how you feel so well, and it is clearly that you love what you do. It does hurt sometimes to do what you love, but why would we keep doing it if it was not worth fighting for...? I really like the description of your experience
Thank you so much for thinking so! I love being on the ice, it's the place I feel most confident and beautiful and able. And all I go through always seem to be worth it in the end! You should try joining the 31 Day Writing Challenge, it's fun! :D
I could tell by your post that you love it! It is nice to see that you have a passion for being on the ice :) I will consider it!
