Different Cultures And Ethnicity

Segregation was an important topic that been dispute about in the history. African American were discriminated by white population and separated from them even in schools. The third episode of the documentary “School - The Story of American Education” touch base about the disagreement between whites and blacks in America especially in the topic about education.

The African American and the whites have their schools that different from each other in teachers and content. By comparison, the video shows how much black teachers were excellent in their profession and how their student was able to make it to college with strong grades and knowledge. While the white schools weren’t doing that good as well as the educators, and the students didn’t do that much in their schools. Another issue that addressed in the documentary is that it was hard for the parents to drop and pick up their children, and it’s more difficult because of the separate school they have for different ethnicity and that what was the first step that turns on the blacks revolution against discrimination. Since the schools are called “public” that revolution was inevitable to make sure of equality in education for all the nation with no discrimination.

Considering the eighth chapter “Philosophy of Education,” we need to understand that this nation is a combination of different cultures and background that we might deal with and don’t know about it. Creating the safe and comfortable environment for the student is a goal that every teacher should seek for and work to accomplish.
