Why did Apple do it?

It is obvious that someone would think instantly that Apple did it for consumers to get rid of their old and slow phones and buy new ones, which increases profits for Apple, especially because in recent years, Apple has left more money hungry than ever before.

The company, however, says they did it to "protect against battery problems and prolong the life of iPhones" and actually call it a "feature" that launched with iOS 10.2.1.

After the negative reaction from consumers around the world, the company launched an apology on its website to explain the situation and the reasoning behind it. They argued that they would never intentionally shorten the lifespan of any Apple product.

According to the explanation provided by them, as the batteries age, they tend to have less charge (which is true for all lithium-ion batteries). When this happens, the battery is no longer capable of delivering peak power loads, which could cause the device to shut down again and again.

To avoid this, they promoted a software update that manages the maximum performance of the hardware to avoid these stops, which resulted in slower operation of the devices. To restore the full performance of their devices, consumers needed to replace their previous battery.

A demand of $ 999 billion

If that number seems completely crazy to you, it is because it is. Even Apple's market limit is not there yet. But that does not stop Violetta Mailyan from suing Apple for $ 999 billion, alleging fraud through concealment.

There are seven more lawsuits filed against Apple, including one for $ 100 million by Raisa Drantivy and her legal team, which is a good number at least!

This shows the anger of the people against the technological giant. Actually, I think they should have been honest about it from the beginning and they should have clearly stated that all consumers had to do a battery replacement and not confuse them to buy new phones altogether.

As a damage control, Apple launched a battery replacement program for the affected phones (iPhone 6, 6s, SE and 7) under which users can replace their batteries for $ 29 of the $ 79 Apple charged earlier. The program will be available worldwide, until December 2018.
