Maya Angelou- A great writer’s morning
The famous American author, poet and civil rights activist Maya Angelou who is best known for her series of seven autobiographies which began in 1969 with I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, had a unique set of morning routines.
As you already got it, Maya Angelou had the habit of waking up very early in the morning just like any other successful people in the world. If you could pinpoint one specific habit that every successful person has, it is the habit of waking up early in the morning.
She personally described her routine during an interview back in 1983. Maya Angelou used to wake up early in the morning, usually around 5:30 am. She used to have coffee regularly just around 6 am with her husband.
As she was not very comfortable writing at home, nor in a public place or scenic area, she used to keep a hotel room for herself and usually went there after 6:30 am when her husband went off to work. She was never late to reach her own personal space in one of her favorite hotel rooms. She always preferred a neat, tiny room with just a bed in it.
She always got there by 7am in the morning and worked there till 2pm. Maya Angelou kept this unique routine all her life. This allowed her to reach the peak of her career and she has managed to write not only her acclaimed series of autobiographies but numerous poems, plays, lectures, articles, and television scripts.
Maya Angelou’s morning habits were simple but it suited her best. Here’s the example of a highly personalized routine which is effective in its own way. If you don’t feel like any of the most talked about morning habits are good for you, try creating a type of your own like Maya Angelou If it the best for you.
I really agree with the idea of a good established routine that works for you. Interesting post.
