Overcoming Insecurity

in #life7 years ago

When you take a look in your mirror what do you see? The cosmetic flaws useless to us, or the beautiful truth that is present with you? Even if your insecurities are beyond your superficial appearance, they are aren't resourceful for you or your development. These insecurities are far more malleable than you think, and no, the equation will not solve itself if you lose another 15 pounds.

The truth of the matter is, what lies within the very vast majority of us is a void, an incompleteness we cannot "fill" with the perfect beach body or all the money and fame the world has to offer. We must recognize this void if we want any real results, and stop chasing the unattainable.

The yearning for excessive material possessions, status, or fame CANNOT fucking complete us, under the circumstances that we aren't already complete. Ideally, you'll see where this article is going. We need not to look outwards or physically for completion, we have what it takes within us. Now, lets start healing ourselves of these insecurities.

You need to look within your ego
Eckhart the author of The Power of Now weighs in on the ego as "the false identity of yourself" You must understand what your ego is , especially when you are actively insecure. You have to remove your identity of your ego, and understand what you think about yourself isn't true, you are not the ego. The ego is an illusion, you are a being.

Become actively present in the Now
This is perhaps, the single best piece of advice ever given. When you learn to move directly into the now, a magical effect happens, this has changed my life. To move in the now means to completely eliminate all thoughts going on within your head, and temporarily turn your brain down. Insecurities, fear, pain and suffering simply cannot exist in the now, everything is perfect in the present moment.

Practicing your presence in the now may be difficult to begin, but will yield incredible results. You can easily practice this by becoming completely aware of yourself and surroundings. Become very conscious, what do you smell? What can you feel? Can you feel the wind in your hair? Did you notice the shadows all around you? Can you feel the clothes on your body? This may be a strange practice at first, but becoming entirely aware of your surroundings helps you stay in the present moment.

Learning to become aware is the basics, learn to also become aware of your thoughts, don't judge them or feed attention to them, just observe them. You'll find this practice will calm your head, understand you are NOT the brain or the thinker, this ultimately will kill every insecurity within you.

Practice meditation, daily.
Meditation should be taught in school, learning to meditate will surefire calm the "storm" in your head, the effects of meditation last beyond just your meditative state, but in every waking moment. When you begin practicing meditation, notice how you feel about yourself and the significance of your presence, meditation has been an incredibly resourceful practice for me, and will always continue to be.

Keep a journal
Set aside time a few times a week to journal down your thoughts and feelings. Note down how you felt that day, whether you were confident, or overcome by insecurities, noting down what made you feel that way will provide a very effective catalyst, to pin-point what makes you insecure.

Keep practice of this advice, you will find how effectively they reflect off each-other in order to crush your insecurities and resulting in bliss within the storm of life.
