THE SIN OF OUR FATHERS
This is a true life story about what happened in Anambra state, Nigeria. My friend and her family have been battling with a lot of hardships and misfortunes. They are hardworking and nice people but ill-luck always ends whatever they do. Being good Christians, they prayed to God to help them, yet their problems persisted. After trying so hard to have a better living which never worked, they began to ask Questions.
In Igboland, when someone is faced with persistent problems, they meet the elders of the land to ask what could be the root cause of that problem. When my friend's family asked the elders what could be making them have a lot of problems, their response was a shocking revelation. They said
"your great-grandfathers sold an Ada(a daughter) and she placed a curse that it will never be well with all the daughters from that lineage".
They were told in details how their forefathers conspired to sell their own sister and how she cursed them. she told them that, as they were causing her so much pains, so shall all their daughters go through pains till death. Indeed, they committed an abomination and their children are paying dearly for their sin.
Of a truth, it has not been well with the daughters from that lineage. Some have their kids run mad, while some see their children die prematurely and mysteriously. They pass through a lot of problems from different angles. However, after finding out what caused their miseries, they started praying towards the right direction. They confessed the sin of their fathers, they pleaded with the spirit of the daughter that was sold to forgive them, as they ask for God's merciful intervention. Today their prayers have been answered. Things have dramatically turned around for their good. My friend and her family are now living more comfortable.
Lessons Learnt
I don't know about other places, but in Igboland where I come from, there is a general believe that whatever you do has a reward. We also believe that this reward doesn't end with you, it extends to the generation yet unborn.
In summary, we believe that everything you do is directly related to planting a seed, which will germinate, grow and yield fruits.
What are you planting today? Are you planting blessings? or are you planting curses? Posterity will judge that.
One of the smartest ways to change your life for good, is to not sow a curse.

things like this really do happen in nigeria for real, the best thing is to live a good life if not even for ourselves but for the sake of our children. Nice post
Yes dear, living a good life is a debt we owe ourselves and our children. Thanks for reading @oluwatobiloba.
The pleasure is mine
Religion, the opium of the masses, in as much as I'm a believer, everyday I start towards atheism.
Your friend instead of wasting her time praying and talking to the "elders", could have changed her environment, her lifestyle if you will.
In a literal sense, the idea that one girl sold a cwntuary ago placing a curse and condemning the family is hogwash.
But still na 9ja we dey, Nigeria operates by another set of rules.
You won't understand. At least the problem was solved. Everyone should do what works best for them. Thanks for reading.
A new nigerian on your page Oogoo. Nice write-up tho. i really need your support and love to grow here in steem it . Thanks , A follow back will do .
Thanks for reading. It's best not to ask people to follow you back. They'll do that on their own. Asking people to follow you back could get some people pissed.
As Africans, we sometimes reap from what we know nothing about. Also, if we believe in reincarnation, it could be said that 'i might be the one that committed the crime in question'. In Hinduism/Buddhism this is called karma (the cosmic law of justice).
I truly believe that there are some curses like the one narrated above and it shows that we need to pray without season.

Nice piece.... True Nigerian stories. A real testimony of deliverance, and God's faithfulness in breaking chains of bondage, which wicked forces enforce. When children of God truly turn to God to help them, he truly delivers them from all their troubles and sorrows.
Thanks @abasinkanga. Our God is always faithful.
You are welcome!
In my dialect, they will say, "eni to ba gbin ebu ika, omo re a je ni be", meaning whosoever plants a bad seed, his offsprings will reap from it. Honestly, Nigeria needs some sort of cleansing, re-orientation and a big pause to some heartless and merciless generation.
Yeah! I agree with you @turpsy. This present generation don't think about tomorrow. Thanks for reading.
Very useful article @ogoowinner. The conclusion on the story bring more benefit to all human living in the world. I cant wait for your latest post about the culture in your country. Hello from Indonesia.
