Ever heard of Pop Art? What was this?
Pop Art was an artistic movement that put the tops of magazines and famous products in museums and art galleries. The term 'pop art' was first used by the English critic Lawrence Alloway in 1954 to refer to works that used popular images as raw materials. The artists of this movement were opposed to abstract expressionism, which only made sense to "cultured" people who knew the history of art.
Pop art was popularized by its representations of products and famous icons of the 60s. Despite everything, the movement also pleased the critics, because it used the iconography of the popular culture also like critic to the consumer society.
