Ten days old daddy

Somebody asked a little girl how old was her father. Her answer came: "Five years old!" The man who asked her thought in his mind that she didn't know just yet how old her father was, but for the sake of the conversation he continued: "How is that possible? Nobody can have a child if he is only five years old." The little girl's answer: "I'm five years old, and my daddy doesn't have any other kids, so he is a father since I was born. He is a five years old father."

However, I am a ten days old daddy. Till now I have heard many parents saying how hard have been for them to have kids. How many nights they didn't sleep, how many thoughts have crossed their minds, how many worries, etc. And yes, they are right, but for me, the real thing is the smile of my little buddy, the peace he gets when I hold him in my arms, the genuine desire he has to be close to his mother and me. When I see how much he wants us, it doesn't matter how many hours I don't sleep at night, the tiredness and the things I have to do.

He came in our family ten days ago. My wife had a cesarian surgery, one-day earlier than we expected. I was waiting for them on the isle of the hospital because in my country it is not allowed to stay with your wife in the room where the doctors perform surgeries. First came my son. A nurse held him, and before bringing him to me, she went to clean him. Only after that, I was able to keep him in my arms for five minutes. When he came from the delivery room, I saw his little hand lifted up, saluting me or maybe praising God. (I will ask him later when he will be able to speak). After few minutes, my wife came on a hospital bed, being transported buy nurses to her room. She was in pain and not able to stay with our son for a couple of days.

The days they stayed in the hospital, passed by very slow, but finally, the day to bring them home came, and this made me very happy. Now we are all at home, and though everything changed: my program, my eating time, my taking shower time, my working time, etc., I feel so blessed with my son.

Everything is new and challenging for us. I remember when I held him for the first time: I was afraid not to hurt him by holding him to tight. I knew that I have to hold his head because he can't do it by himself, so I was nervous to not make a mistake. The first bath he took at home was such an interesting experience for me. Not to mention changing the diapers, when I was afraid that I could hurt his legs.

I'm not telling you these things to complain of something. I just share the emotions a young daddy could have. However, when I look at my son, my day changes in good. When I see how he searches for me with his beautiful eyes, it melts my heart. When I see him smiling is better than having all the money in the world. When I see the peace he has when he stays in my arms, make me desire that those moments never end. When he moves his head toward me, to touch me makes me feel the most blessed man on earth.

In conclusion, it's worth to wake up few times per night to feed him and to change his diapers. Before he came into our lives, I was thinking how would be to not sleep properly because of your newborn baby. I have to confess that I like to sleep. I really like it, but when I have to wake up for my son, everything changes.

If you are a parent, don't focus on the difficulties, focus on the blessings!

Thank you for allowing me to share with you my feelings.

Congratulation :) He's so adorable. It would certainly be the best feeling in the world. I cannot fully understand your emotions but I do have a beautiful niece, and yes being an aunt of a one y/o baby is one of the best feelings in this world and I feel like a mother already. May God bless him :)

Thank you for your wishes and for shareing your experience as aunty, @sara-writes.
